My wife is looking into getting her cc tomorrow and finding a revolver to carry. She has small hands and found a S&W hammer less .380 for ~$400 in stock at Cabellas in Huntsville. Key words in stock. I've looked at Buds and most are out of stock. What are the Aldeer recommendations? Should she consider a 9mm?

I would go with a rimmed case, like a 38 spl for a revolver instead of .380 or 9mm.

Smith and Wesson Shield 380 EZ is a good option. The slide is very easy to rack.

I’d go with a S&W 642.

If she needs/likes a thin gun that she could easily handle.. look at the smith and Wesson 380 bodyguard.

642 would be great.

This^^^ Mrs. Irish had a Ruger 380 and now she really likes the 642 that my Dad gave her for her birthday one year.

My wife started with the 642 and now carries the ruger 380. Let her shoot a few and pick. My wife likes the 380 for comfort of carry and weight

I'd at least check out the 642. Get her to hold one and even shoot one if there is an opportunity to do so. I bought my wife a LC9 and she doesn't like it much but she does carry it. I'll probably wind up getting her to try a 642 before long.

My wife much prefers a S&W 357 loaded with 38's over a 380 or 9 mm compact. It's a heavier gun and has less slap at the shot. Something to consider, especially if you have a petite wife. Mine ain't petite but she still likes the larger framed (heavier) revolver.

Evert time I tried to buy a gun for my wife, she wanted something else. I'd take her gun shopping. My wife loves her Shield 9mm.

This little package would be a great carry weapon in any of the configurations offered:

Smith 642 or Glock 43 or xds9.380 ammo gets hard to find in a shortage and not alot of recoil difference

Certainly a revolver unless she is an experienced shooter. After that we say to hold a few and see which is most comfortable to her.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

What?

I know experienced shooters that can barley hit with a snub nosed revolver, had jams from jump crimps, and can’t get a second round off because they don’t let their finger all the way foward to reset.

I like a JFrame 38 plus P but she needs to grab the attacker with the off hand and fire from point blank.

It may sound stupid but for reliability, safety features, ease of use, and accuracy, a bersa thunder CC or regular 380 is easy for women. I know of one with over 17,000 rounds without a failure and it has never been cleaned, just sprayed down. Its a loaner for a CC class. The running joke class after class is “if someone points a Bersa Thunder at you, you are hit”. The dang gun should have Sig Sauer on it. Easy to take down too.

If she can handle a Ruger LCP hammered with #13lb spring and Underwood 65gr Defender Plus P, that works.

These are very nice guns. Size is large enough to be a shooter, has a grip squeeze and an external flip safety, smooth slide action and as mentioned very easy to chamber, magazine side assist to help loading, slide serrations for grip when chambering. Very smooth shooter, no muzzle flip and minimum recoil. I've fired a dozen or two doing sales demonstrations and they are accurate, pleasant to shoot, and as I stated, really nice guns.

Personally, I am a fan of the Ruger LCR 38 special revolver.
