More baiting license sold than hunting license and trespassing citations were up 4x over last year. (Deer season)

Interesting, I know lifetime licensees (and etc) had to buy a permit regardless to hunt over bait but still that is interesting. I'd like to look at all the numbers one rainy day.

Chuck says his thinking on 4x the trespassing was that in the past if a trespasser was caught by the landowner there was a quid pro quo. I'll let you go if you don't report me for baiting and obviously now it isn't the same.

Plausible, what say you gentleman on the subjects at hand?

I don't think most trespassers are smart enough to think up a quid pro quo, on the spot like that.

My thoughts also. When I think trespasser, I don't think scholar.

A quid pro quo ???
I would say more people are tired of getting poacher on their property
Hunting isn’t cheap and with planting and upkeep cost going up people are just plain fed up with poachers and trespassing

I'd say GW's had more time to try to catch trespassers since they weren't spending all their time trying to sniff out every corn pile in the woods. Also, more and more cell cams are being deployed in the woods which makes it much easier to monitor your land and catch trespassers. I speak from experience on that one

Maybe the game wardens were more available to pursue trespassers since they weren’t worried so much about baiting???
Probably land owners that normally baited didn’t want to call the law and run the risk of them finding the bait, while pursuing a trespasser. Sort of didn’t want to throw themselves under their own bus. Having a permit fixes that.

As far as bait license and regular license purchase. I purchased 3 bait, 0 regular. I get it.

Good. Maybe this state will finally start getting the outlaws under control in this state. If there’s one thing I can’t stand in this world it’s a good for nothing trespassing poacher.

Yes.

Corn seemed to be public enemy #1 until a dollar could be made off of it. I guess it suddenly became ethical.

Good point on the cell cameras. Pretty neat technology that will only continue to get better, cheaper and faster.

Also landowners and lessors are being more protective of their property these days than they ever were in the past. If you have $30k+ worth of equipment parked in the woods somewhere you are going to make an effort to protect it.

This is correct. Mandating that everyone regardless of age or license designation be required to have one if they use corn jacked up the numbers.

And just wait. In a few years the "corn license" fee will increase. That money is too easy to get. Y'all already proved you'd willingly pay it. When it goes up "just" another $10 or $15 a year you'll still pay it. And your kids are being brainwashed into thinking it's fine and necessary to pay.

Some of y'all wanted more regulations, more laws, more SCHITT imposed on hunting and fishing. You got it.

Even better, would be, "chuck said something stupid". Man we could get drunker than cooter brown on that game.

That is exactly right. And that is a job I'd rather the game wardens be doing.

There was never any reason why it should have been considered unethical in the first place. It is no different than hunting over a green patch which was already legal. If you want hunting over any kind of bait, corn, green patch, white oak trees, etc, to be illegal then I might disagree with you but I'd at least respect your consistentcy. But wanting green patches legal and corn illegal is a ridiculous inconsistentcy that cannot be defended with any sound logic.

How is wanting something to be legal wanting more laws? And the last time I checked no one had to buy a permit to hunt over bait. It's not manditory. If the whole deal offends you then just don't put out any corn and don't buy the permit. Seems pretty simple to me.
