I am going to be running a water line from the meter to my barn/house. The distance is about 350 feet.
What type and what size pipe do yall recommend?

At my previous residence, I used 1" PVC and had plenty of pressure but I didnt have to go but about half the distance. Of course the valve coming out of the meter is 3/4".

I have a 3/4" PVC pipe I buried for a total of 180 feet, so about half your distance. It has incredible pressure. I don't see how "upsizing" after the meter would be helpful. Maybe it would decrease friction over the 350 feet, but I bet 3/4" would suffice.

Pressure isn't decided by pipe size. Only volume.

If you don't want to lose any flow on your side due to friction up size the pipe thats on the other side of the meter. If its 3/4 on the city side go with 1 inch.

500' roll of pex = $355
Ditch witch rental = $90/day

I would run pex. No fitting to glue or fail (other than the supply and discharge sides.

Ran 240 ft last weekend with two hose convections one box 3/4” pvc materials was $128. 4 pass with middle buster to cut a 12” deep ditch, my 11 year old daughter helped plumb it. Used one row cultivator to pull dirt back in, two passes over it with the tiller to smooth it out. Worked out pretty good and can now water my lower garden without toting water.

I ran 900 feet of 1" Pex that was on four 250 foot rolls. Coupled it together with the matching brass couplers/compression rings. Never have built back there so I never set a meter. it goes slightly uphill in the center of the run and I hope it'll be OK when I do set a meter and use it.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

This. I like to crimp my pex fittings over qc fittings

hydraulics dont work like that id just use the 3/4 the meter is already set up for you arent gonna get any more pressure than the city provide even if you ran 2" most city water is too high anyway and needs a pressure regulator at the house

You are right, you will not gain any pressure, but you can and will will loose pressure over distance due to frictional loss which is why people are recommending the step up in size. Pipe is like wire, in that the longer the run the larger the size needed to maintain flow and pressure.

I'm about to do a 400' run for my in-law's place we are putting on the acre behind me. The city is going to do a 1" meter tap for me and I'll run 1" Pex the whole way with zero fittings except at the meter and then where it comes out of the ground at the trailer.

Pex without a doubt.

I'd go with 1" PEX.

I’ll probably have to do about 250’ for some land in a few months... last we ran was for the wife’s grandmother and it was somewhere in the 1000’ range.. that was a lot of gluing fittings🤬

If you go with pvc. I take the first piece and duct tape the end, then I take and glue bell end, add next piece, twist pipe 1/4 revolution. Push and let pipe slide along the ground, and repeat. After so long it helps to have a person grab the duct taped end to guide and pull. This way you don't waste time laying pipe out along ditch line or getting up and down at each junction.

ALL couplings are potential leak points. No way I'd run 10 foot sticks, or even 20 footers, for over 100 feet.
