Can’t believe no one has posted on this, Trump opened them up as of right then, said he would over rule any Governor that that said other wise. He said if the liquor stores and abortion clinics were essential, he was making churches essential.

But what he said has no teeth. Jay Inslee in Washington State today issued MORE restrictions against all houses of worship! Some restrictions were to have been relaxed June 1st and have now been move to Phase Three which pushes them to August. Who's orders do you think the local LEO/powers are are going follow.

The press conference I watched was short and sweet, he seemed to get his point across loud and clear. Guess we will have to wait and see if it had any teeth, I’m guessing it did.

As much I tend to agree with trump, states rights are constitutionally superior to the federal government.
I hate what's happening in our country right now, but the president should not have authority over our governors.
It's a mess, but I still believe our founding fathers knew best.

I do not believe that unless you can provide some documentation.

I don't doubt that happened Fur. I heard yesterday a lady was arrested in a Northern state because her online business was open after 8pm. The store was closed and she was inside filling online orders.

This is true. Trump has no constitutional authority to dictate to governors to open churches and cannot unilaterally "rule" them open.

Nice gesture to his voting base and I wish-hope the churches open. But that's a straight dictatorial, authoritarian move by Trump.

Honest question - would the president not have the authority to enforce the first amendment if a state is openly violating it?

Yes sir, in effect, the president would have the authority to override an unconstitutional state law.
The 10th amendment says, "in order to prevent the states from claiming too much power, the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause (Article VI, Clause 2) holds that all laws enacted by the state governments must comply with the Constitution, and that whenever a law enacted by a state conflicts with a federal law, the federal law must be applied".
However, we're in uncharted waters today because the state hasn't technically inacted a law.

Fwiw, I know our local l churches have been open for weeks. Some of them have chosen (by their rights) to hold drive-in services or interactive services, while others have opened with some distancing rules. I personally know that our sheriff said he'd not enforce any unconstitutional rules, and he strongly supports the church and the congregation making their own decisions.
