Past Ol’ man Finley’s plac...

Chris Kyle said his favorite rifle he used in service was a .300 Win Mag followed by a .338 Lapua Mag. Here is what he said about the .50 cal that I found interesting....

He goes on to say, “Everyone says that the .50 is a perfect anti-vehicle gun. But the truth is that if you shoot the .50 through a vehicle’s engine block, you’re not actually going to stop the vehicle. Not right away. The fluids will leak out and eventually it will stop moving. But it’s not instant by any means. A .338 or even a .300 will do the same thing. No, the best way to stop a vehicle is to shoot the driver. And that you can do with a number of weapons.”

If I had to take a rifle into battle it wouldn’t be a 6.5. I’ll give credit where credit is due, and the 6.5 is a neat little round but I need something along the 300 line.

Exactly.... when I hear the guys refer to the .308 as the military’s sniper round I cringe

The two Marine snipers I know say the 308 is the snipers round.

It's what I shot and still do to this day.

I’ve known a few myself and the .308 is rarely mentioned. The go to is the .300 Win Mag with the .338 Lapua Mag a close second. The longest recorded kill in history done by that Canadian sniper was a .338
