powerline near a road

What would be good to plant that would help hide deer from road hunters, & make them more comfortable.

Needs to be something that I can plant & fertilize, and then come back in 2-3 months to hunt.

I am thinking something tall with peas/beans/clover mixed it. Can hit it with winter rye when we go up to hunt. I could plant strips of tall stuff, then strips of the shorter plants. Have about 4-5 acres to work with.

Egyptian wheat is probably your best option to plant.....It like a lot of nitrogen and can be finicky in poor soils....Stay away from stuff the deer eat.....A lot folks will gasp at the idea of using dog fennel but if you can cut some down from another area after it goes to seed and lay it down in a line where you want it....you might be able to get a screen of it established that way. Its by far the easiest, cheapest, and most durable screen you can have.....EW tends to fall over later in the season when you want it working for you the most

Wise words right there. Otherwise, you will inadvertently draw the deer closer to the road.

This stuff here is giant reed grass. It looks like a cross between corn and bamboo. It will grow in clumps and not spread. It will bow out to about 10-12 wide and 10-12 tall. You can bush hog it and it comes back the next yr to full height. Deer will not eat it. Lots of images on google search of it.

Need to plant you some of that stuff rmart posted. Do not make the mistake I did and buy a bag of some expensive sunn hemp wanting to make a screen and the deer eat it to the ground . Egyptian wheat or that grass above is the way you need to go.

Good thing with this is it doesn't need replanted every year like EW does. EW isn't cheap.

With it being on a power line, gotta be careful about them spraying and killing it.
