News yesterday showed footage of inmates intentionally trying to contract the virus to get early release. Several were successful but did not get released

If a man gets shot in the jugular by a sniper then steps out in front of a bus as hes bleeding out, did the bus kill him? Time is the only difference here. Both men were surely dying, the dying just sped up a little in both cases.
