My uncle wants to buy a 1/2 a cow. I sold all my cattle a couple of years ago. Anyone have any direction to point me? Also what is the cost like these days?

I may know of a source for a 1/4 of grass fed wagyu. If you like I can try to see if it’s still available.

Micky Childers in Morgan County has Angus steers 1/4, 1/2 or whole. Adams Angus Farm sells beef halves.

I didn't know they were doing quarters and halves but they have some fine cattle. They ran a dairy until milk went upside down. Mr. Burden is good folk. If he or his grandson John tell you something, you can take it to the bank.

Freezers have become a little scarce lately and used prices are rising. We were thinking of getting another and getting a half angus but we should have enough to last deep into winter.

Mickey is good people and has great looking stock. Grass/hay/corn silage fed. I’ll prob be talking to him soon. Not sure if John Burden (burden farms) is doing beef or all rowcrop since they quit milking?

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Last I talked to Johnny, he wasn't sure which way he was going. Mickey bred themselves out of the dairy business by using Angus bulls on the dairy cows. He had some good looking Angus heifers last time I was there.

Mikey is Mr. Gaines Burdens son in law. Mr. Burden taught them all including Johnny.

My son mentioned today he just bought 1/2 a cow. I can get the details if you want me to. Sounded expensive to me.

I’ve looked at it a time or two and it seemed the price ended up around $5 to $6 a pound out the door. That’s a month ago last I looked.

I looked at it. Couple of places in Central FL and Washington and Holmes county and it seemed expensive unless you buy a whole or half cow. $2000 or more was guesstimate as they don’t know exact weight. Save some money on whole or half it seems. One place in Chipley also sold Wagyu steaks starting at $28 up to crazy amounts for one 12-16 ounce steak. Less than that like quarter cow it was like $8.50 or something like that. Of course it’s high falutin grass fed beef and these places tout their high standards on their websites. Another website in central Florida had $3 a pound plus some fee and .60 a pound processing on whole or half cow. You pay on the hoof for the one place but that includes the processing. At other places you paid for the hanging weight and .60 a pound or so processing. Seemed like a lot of money to me. Got to be cheaper if you have a friend that raises cattle and pay him then pay the processor. I think in the end a half was more than $2000 on the one website. I guess if you have freezer space and find a regular place, not the high falutin places I saw online, and buy half or whole you may come out ahead. Of course if your freezer breaks or you lose power you just wasted thousands of dollars. I think it’s as scam unless you find the right place that’s legitimate. Good luck!
