My limited experience with them is - they are VERY bloody. Our outfitter used them as cut bait for yellow-fin.

Bonita is usually used for cut bait and that’s about it. Doesn’t surprise me that they eat them in that part of the world. Asian folks don’t throw much of anything back in the water alive. Doesn’t look bad either, so I’d put it on the I would try it list.... if I ever go to Japan.

Sounds like a bunch of spoiled kids. What’s the difference in eating that fish or any other fish? It’s called taste and preference. If you haven’t tried it don’t knock it. Trigger fish was once considered to be trash fish.

Just above skipjack. I did try a small bit of on a saltwater trip. The things I used to do for a beer bet.

Those are probably true bonita, not the little tunny we call bonita in the gulf. May be better table fare. Not sure

I've had it just to say I had it. Not gross or anything but not delicious either. My son and I used to catch all kinds and would try just about any of them.

We call that a skipjack or skippy in the gulf. Properly bled, iced, and prepared it is delicious. It is very good as a poke salad.

You buncha rednecks don't know what's good!! Katsuobushi (bonita flakes-dried) is a staple in Japanese food. You make a broth out of it. Or sprinkle over various dishes. The seared bonita you see in the video is cooked over rice straw. It's got a strong taste but it's great. Japanese street food is great, the little places are spotlessly clean, I never got sick once. There was a stand at a temple close to my apartment in Kyoto every weekend that sold the best takoyaki (octapus balls-minced octopus in kinda like a hushpuppy) I've ever had.

When I went to Hitachi City, Japan a few years back, they prepared Bonita sushi for us (among a bunch of other crazy stuff). It was not only perfectly fine, it was really good. Maybe it’s not the same Bonita we have, but the color of the meat sure looked the same. It just tasted like fish sushi to me.
