I get to hunt a 40 acre pasture across the road that has a swamp behind it and pines to the left side. I was bush hogging last weekend and bumped a hen off her nest so I quit. Well Thursday morning I pulled up on top of a hill heading to work and see see a strutter, a hen and two other birds. I went Thursday night after dark and put my blind back up, trying not to spook the nested hen. I figured the gobbler would be back since there was a hen around. Friday morning got to the blind set my hen upnin a breeding position and put a jake with her.(Had to use an arrow to stand the jake up). No birds gobbled or showed up. Yesterday morning I left at 5:20 to go fishing and could hear the turkey gobbling across the road, stupid turkey. Well this morning I got in the blind a little after five with decoys set up and waited. He started gobbling and answered my tree yelps. I finally heard what sounded like a hen and looked out of the blind to my left and he was in full strut in the pasture with another long beard, a jake and a hen. Slate called to him and he would answer but they wouldn't move. I finally got my box call out and yelped. That hen got pissed and started running to my decoys. She puffed up when she got to them and the two long beards followed her running( just like on videos). Both were in full strut. Shot one not sure if it was the main strutter or not. 11 inch beard, 1 spur and 3/4 spur. 19.7lbs. First bird in two years. Last edited by G/H; 05/03/20 04:03 PM.
