What's your next move? This is the first tree I've found in Alabama that is clearly being used on the regular. Ground is littered with droppings and feathers. For the usual wind here, it's on the leeward side of the hill, clearing just above the tree, creek with a wide flooded area in the drainage below, and an old logging road that runs parallel to the creek about 100 yards from the tree.

My next move would be toward a gobbling turkey.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Haha! Would love to take a crew of ALdeer turkey killers out there, but I'm afraid these social distancing requirements will be in place through the rest of the season. Too bad...

I was wondering if I should be more cautious with hunting around a tree that gets used regularly. You wouldn't worry about blowing out the spot if you shot one right under it?

Blow it up, I doubt it’s used as much as your think. There would be piles of shucks under it if it was used daily. Seriously piles.

Just make sure you sit on the downwind side. You wouldn’t want them to smell you. wink

You remember that ancient roost tree in Nebraska we found? The one that had the huge limbs hanging off each side with knee high piles of poop underneath those limbs. Looked like giant ant beds made of turkey poop.

I'm afraid those days are gone for the foreseeable future! I've seen it. We've watched turkeys come from miles it seemed to roost in one hollow that had big cottonwoods. It was an amazing sight to see 100+ turkeys fly up in an acre groove of trees.

I don't know what hit the population up there so bad but even the huge winter flocks that used to number in the hundreds have been reduced to dozens of less.

Hmm... Didn't think of that. I could see a couple of feathers on the lower limbs but didn't notice if there were any droppings on the lower limbs (indicating roosting above). Guess there's only one way to find out.

Spent the first 18 years of my life in Nebraska, and my dad still lives on Harlan County Reservoir. Seen a bunch of trees like that...
