I have never seen so many silent posts on aldeer as I have this year. Wonder if it has been weather or what the reason is for so many 0s this yr. It's hard to remember going and not hearing several different turkeys back 10-20 years ago even on bad weather days.

First morning I've been this year that I didn't hear at least one bird. Silence this morning until the loggers got going then it got pretty loud.

There were a whole lot more turkeys in the woods 10-20 years ago. Gotta be a turkey there to hear one.

Ben I heard a lot of gobbling the first couple weeks of the season and then it’s like somebody flipped a switch. Weird year for me anyway.

Changed it up and went and hunted some private that's got the turkeys on it. Figured it would be easier to find one willing than the WMA on a Friday morn. Got out there to listen early, found tracks, walked a road loaded with gobbler tracks, and didn't hear anything by the time the sun was over the horizon.

I go do a couple of chores like checking cameras that needed doing since I was bummed, come back to the same road I had walked and I've got gobbler tracks on mine! Dangit! I hit the glass call since I had been using my mouth call all morning and he hammered to it. Gave me a couple of gobbles but clearly he was headed away from me searching for his hen.

Maybe we can cross paths again before the season goes out. Had he gobbled on the limb I woulda killed that joker dead to rice, I must have been listening within 150 yards of where he was roosted.

Really? I think that it has been readily apparent throughout the first half of the season that kills/ gobble reports were way up compared to the last few years.

It was nearly identical to this in 2012, which was probably the best season statewide in a long time. Warm winter and extremely warm early spring had them on fire early and it petered out over the last two weeks of April. The main difference between that year and this one was the incredible amount of rainfall before (and continuing through) this season.

The gobbling reports and kill numbers in the first 2-3 weeks in AL this year were extremely high. Not just kills, but gobbling. And, that came from a bunch of different areas.

However, gobble reports are a lot like customer reviews. For every 100 hunters, the hand full of hunters that aren't hearing them are the vocal minority. As usual, the vast majority are hearing them but sure aren't going to post much (if any) about it at all. It stinks that it is that way, but it is and always has been.

There are exceptions here and there. I have heard far fewer than normal in my main area, but have seen as many as usual which is a good number. The quarantine has increased both the number of hunters and frequency of hunting, especially on public land I would presume. That could affect those areas going forward for the immediate future, but I can't prove that. But I don't think that the" apocalyptic decline in the statewide population" agenda is validated from this season's reports at all.

I'll tell you one thing, the birds that survive this year's public land onslaught are going to be some of the most educated, smartest ones around. The pressure on the public land I've fooled with is tremendous and hasn't let up all season. Last week was the final straw for me. Just ridiculous how many folks are parking 200 yards away from you, riding the roads at 2mph listening for gobbles regardless of trucks parked around the area. It's a wonder more people don't get shot turkey hunting because it's apparent many public land regulars have no intention of abiding by the Golden rule.

I will say I definitely had a truck leave me alone when I was on a gobbling bird and he heard it too, but that was one time.

Yeah I understand and remember the first few weeks people killed a bunch. I just dont remember so many silent posts. I know lots of places are still covered up with turkeys. Hopefully everyone still after them will get on a few more before the season is out. The last week or so has always been my favorite time to hunt.

Sickest feeling on Earth! Crippled one up and lost him! Looked for 2 hours with my lab and still haven't found him.

Two of them fired up this morning and came in perfect until the last 30 yards they moved out of the road into the timber and I couldn't see them until they were about 10 yards from me. I spooked them and body shot the farthest bird which might've been 20 yards but guess I only got a piece of him.

Figured out what happened. Spoke to landowner who joins us. Boy on his property north of us shot and missed. Was on the line and must have been pointed right at us when he shot because it sure sounded closer. We had a bird on cam this past sun-tues mornings close to where he claimed he shot so I hope he didn’t mess him up. Buddy hunted him Wednesday but he didn’t gobble. Sure messed up our morning tho. No gobbles and throw in the fact that a real healthy coyote came by me at 0600 it just wasn’t my day today. I hadn’t made a peep and was stone still. He came by at 20 yards and pegged me immediately and ran off. Them jokers are slick.
