My Nissan Frontier 4x4 currently has a 2" leveling kit on it with the adjustable camber bolts. I want it a little higher, so I am thinking about going with a 3" front and 1.5" - 2" rear. Until you get to the real serious type kits, most kits are like what is now on the front, which is a billet spacer that goes on top of the front coil over. Which is fine for what I want, but when you get to the rear, there are about 3 different options:

1. A spacer that goes between the leaf pack and the axle.
2. A longer shackle.
3. A "add a leaf."

I'm leaning with an add a leaf.

What are the pros and cons of each? I guess I don't understand why there are different options.

A block is usually the cheapest and will maintain the factory ride. Longer shackles are the worst option. Adding a leaf will almost always make the spring rate stiffer. I’ve had both add a leaf and block lifts. If you are doing the work yourself, adding the spacer is the easiest.

One thing to check on is if a 3 inch lift on that truck will require the transfer case to be lowered. A lot of lift kits don’t come with the brackets to lower the case, even though it is often required.

I'll be doing it myself. I kind of figured the spacer might be the best option, I was just figuring the add a leaf would give me more hauling capacity, but it would also make the truck ride rougher. And seeing that I use the truck for transportation more than hauling heavy loads (For a Nissan Frontier grin)

I'll look at a kit with the rear spacer then.

Might need a steering block spacer.

I had add a leafs on a toyota truck once. Both leaf springs broke at the end of the add a leaf. New leaf springs are always the best. Of the 3 options you asked about, a block is the way to go. Longer shackles only lift one end of the spring, so you would need them twice as long as the lift you want (to get 3" of lift, shackles would need to be 6" longer than stock). A shackle a lot longer than stock shackles will mess with the angles on your drive shaft and you will get vibrations and shorter u joint life.

Are you wanting 5 total in front and 1.5-2 in rear? Or are you wanting 3 total in front and 1.5-2 in rear?

The latter of the two you mentioned. I'm going to remove the 2" front lift that is in there currently and repoace it with a 3" lift in the front and then maybe do a 1 1/2" lift in the back.

I'm mainly hoping it helps me pick up hot chicks at the beach.
