How many of you let a buck walk this past year cause "he'll be a goodun next year" and are thinking in these crazy days ya should have put him in the freezer? And considering you can poach if ya get hungry not an excuse

I never pulled the trigger this season but hammered a decent one and then let a good up and comer walk last season. That was the first good racked buck that I’ve let walk. Felt funny at the time but I don’t regret it and would do the same thing now. Thankfully we’ve got a freezer full of meat.

Good deal there. There’s always another dollar or adventure to be made and gone, but great things like giving the meat to a food bank...that’s a great thing for a person to have in their memories. Awesome.

I let two walk. It was prime rut here and a doe come in 10 yards. I thought since it’s the rut and I knew they were moving that I would wait to see if a buck followed here in. Two minutes later here he come a basket rack 4 point at 10 yards🤦‍♂️

I let three 3.5 year olds walk that I would have shot in a heartbeat in prior years.I took the best and second best bucks of my life two seasons ago and that combined with the very positive things which have been happening on my place has kinda got me where I am not interested in anything other than very mature bucks 4.5 minimum.A lot of it has to do with the results of 6 years of pretty focused management including summer plots, thinning/burning, maximizing stand locations with long shooting lanes and much more.Combine that with very low hunting pressure, the fact 2/3 of my place would be considered a sanctuary, a neighbor who feeds tons of corn/protein and has not shot a deer in 10 years and 220 acres of 4 year unreplanted clear cut along my entire east boundary and honestly I am seeing so many dam deer I can pass one with high confidence another will be along shortly. In years past I might see a few 2.5-3.5 year old bucks all season so if I saw them I shot them. That is no longer the case. Based on my pics of last years survivors I have high expectations that I will be pulling the trigger next year.As far as meat goes I could have shot a trailer load of does so it times get hard I think protein will not be a problem

I've never regretted letting a buck walk. I have regretted misjudging one and shooting one below my personal standards once er twice.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

If it actually comes to the point where I don’t have food on my table then I will absolutely go kill a deer but honestly I’m going to call the game warden first and tell him what’s going on. I’m not going to sneak around and do it.

I let a pretty good one walk. It was one of the best hunts I've ever been on. Seen deer all day, seen bucks chasing does. That hunt had it all.

Goodman does not lie.He let a stud walk cause he sent me a real time photo as I sat a few hundred yards away.Hopefully he will get another chance next year because anyone who let that one go can hunt with me anytime.Ya see another one like that you blast his ass.

Add to that letting one walk only to be killed later by someone else. Then and after you get your hands on him you want to kick your own arse cause he was a better buck than you thought
