crap on that.....they can admit it or not, but a "carry permit database" is a step toward mandatory gun registration. Oh, and then there's this: "The database would be handled by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency." I thought everyone here was saying that Local/State level Law Enforcement would never enforce such legislation....so then way is ALEA "handling" the creation and maintenance of such a database.

It's also just another example of the NRA chipping away at the rights of gun owners. They ceased to have our best interests in mind a long time ago.

This is the frog being boiled slowly.

That is how it is in Texas. The Tx Dept of Public Safety issues the conceal carry permit. This was to prevent exactly what happened when certain Alabama sheriffs failed to complete a through background check before issuing a license. I was surprised how easy it was to obtain a CCW in Alabama. Texas requires 15 hours classroom instruction, range qualification, submission of both finger and palm prints and a passport photo. But at least they send you a 90 day notice before your CCW expires.

Texas is crazy liberal in lots of places. And getting worse.

And yes, that bill looks pretty stupid. I'd rather have constitutional carry, with a permit not required like Mississippi.

The urban vs rural divide is almost textbook in Texas.
The large cities of Texas are going to rule the state with an iron grip in the next 20 years it looks like.

Yeah, I know.....it's just strange that a place that, even as recently as 10yrs ago, had a reputation for being the last bastion of Freedom in an increasingly liberal world is now turning left right before our eyes.

“Put those on there that are prohibited a lot less people are prohibited than those that are not,” Fulmer said. “Why are they identifying law-abiding citizens because we are the only ones that will comply with the law.”
....WHUT DID HE SAY?!?! Maybe they misquoted Mr. Fulmer, but that makes NO sense. Don't worry, I get the gist, it just is gobbledygook

Neither does the NRA sometimes...I still support them and I am a (proud...sorta) Life Member, but they pizz me off sometimes, just like some of you goobers...and I still talk good about y'all....mostly. I did check out the Bama Carry outfit and got a two-fer and joined BC and GOA (GOA again). Seems like a good outfit and I am all about NO COMPROMISE, which is what Wayne LaPierre oughta be concentrating on...Happy Friday

If your state's permit process involves a background check, like Georgia's does, then you never have to get a background check called in when you buy a gun.

The fact that the feds DON'T get notified every time I spend a little cash is reason enough for me to not want GA to change to constitutional carry. I'm fine with the permit, even though I know that it doesn't stop criminals.

Also helps me be sure I ain't selling to an ATF spy if I trade or sell something I am tired of or want to upgrade.

And yes, I know some folks refuse to fill out a 4473 for whatever reason. I can't always find what I want to buy on the used market.

The NRA has been delegated "junk mail" status with me. Anything they send me goes unopened into the burn bag.

Guns?... What guns??
I don't have any guns. I can show you a bill of sale for every gun I once owned.

For Bama, that's incorrect. It used to be at the ffl's discretion if you had a permit. No longer.

In Bama, a background check is supposed to be ran on every purchase through a ffl

Evidently several FFL guys ain't aware of that. I know a bunch who will sell you the gun right now with a CCP.

All ffl holders got a letter, and a email stating that we could not except any CCP permit until further notice. I am a retired law enforcement officer from louisiana, where the state runs the CCP license. we got at least 10 a day in the mail, they were placed on file, for officer safety in case we had a domestic disturbance at one of the address's. we just need to keep fighting for our gun rights.

The State over the last 8 years has continuously tried to over-run or not Honor and recognize lifetime licensees. Many retirees have had problems with it over the last few years. Of course I see it because I have been here for 20 years seeing the bitching. But those guys at the State only see it in a 3 year increment because they change positions at about that rate. The State made a deal when they gave someone a lifetime license and that was a legal agreement. I really think someone should file a class-action over the many grievances.
