What's the cost and sequence of stocking a 2 acre pond with bass, bream, shellcracker and catfish IF the 4 are compatible in a pond that size.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I just paid a dollar each for catfish fingerlings and between 30 and 80 cents for 2 different varieties of bluegill bream. This included delivery and all, so it seemed pretty reasonable. You just need to get someone to tell you how many of each you want/need.

The 80 cent bream were "large copper nose".

Pretty good resource at the link below and you can buy the fish from them and have them delivered if you want to do it yourself - I think. Otherwise, Lefthorn on here is with Southeastern Pond Management I believe or there is also another place we use called American Sportfish just b/c a local guy put us in touch with them.

Put the bass in last and if you stock with F1 give everything else a year minimum before you put the bass in. I don’t care what anyone else tells you, I’ve seen the bass deplete everything else in several ponds that size.

That's much appreciated info!

My Boss just built a humungous pond!! He called 2 different guys from around here, in which one was almost half the cost to stock his pond. Call the guy and talk to him, he seemed very knowledgeable on the issue. Said he goes by the recommendation from Auburn. 256-200-2994. If you're on FB look up No'Ala Pond Service.

What part of North Alabama are you Wiley? There's a pond in Athens a bunch of us chip in together on and we stock every year. It's a blast and works out to $30/piece.

Don’t wait a year. I have seen situations where the bluegill get too big and then eat the fingerling bass and you have to stock with adults.

We recommend stocking with forage (bluegill and fathead minnows) in fall/early spring. Then follow up with bass in June. We have GREAT results stocking like this.

As far as catfish, yes they can co-exist. But I would wait and let everything else get going good and then add adult catfish. Well honestly, I wouldn’t add catfish cause I got nothing for them. They are personal preference though

I agree unless it’s F1 bass. They are feeding machines that grow fast. The ponds I mentioned they were added 6 months after everything else and they ate everything but the grass carp. That’s in ponds that had supplemental feeding daily and also adding feeder fish twice a year. In the several years that followed we never had any reason to believe anything survived other than F1 and grass carp

Yes, agree, you need a lot of 3-4 inch bream, because the bass are going to devour them.
I also add talapia and crawfish to my pond each year for the bass to have more to eat, bass love both of those too. I use Eric at American Sportfish outside of Montgomery.

Me and my boy could stock in in a years time for nothing. Weve stocked two small ponds here by the house out of guntersvill, the coosa and a couple other ponds. We put bream in first about the time they go on bed, in 6months time the two ponds were crawling with bream finferling size. Then we put breeder size bass in there in early spring, by fall the ponds were full of 6-8in bass. We put catsish in as we caught them all along. Now weve got two ponds right here close to the house we can go catch good fish out of about any time we want to. One of these ponds has been there since I was a kid and has never had fish in it. Probably not the way most would have done it but it worked for us.

Did you stock with fingerling F1 or adults? Also stocking rates drastically affect the overall population. We stock higher numbers of bluegill and keep the bass lower. We have grown some bass to 2.5 lbs in one year. Of course that is very high but we regularly see them 1.5-2 lbs in a year

And the F1 bass is the bass to stock. They stay aggressive unlike the old FL strain.

Wiley you could call pettits farm supply, theyre about 10mi south of guntersville. Their prices are a little lower than the price list above. Theyre pretty knowledgeable about stocking too. Ive bought a few fish from them.

F1 we’re fingerlings, we out bream 100-1 over bass and catfish 50-1. Talapia 100-1 and added fatheads the first time after 4 months. We fed Purina daily from day 1 and added progressively for the first year continuing to add fatheads and talapia

I wouldn’t have anything but the F1 those ponds were some of the best bass fishing anywhere by beginning year two were catching 2.5- 3 pound fish that fought like 12-13 pounders and you could catch 30 an hour on a good day. By year 4, 6-9 pound were common and way fun
