We've always added a little sugar to it, break apart buttered toast and put in the bottom of a bowl, put the oatmeal on top.

What's the big deal with steel cut vs. regular, or is there? Steel cut oats are cut pieces of the groat(the oat nut), still have the bran and aren't processed in any way. Regular oats are usually steamed, rolled and then cut/dried and don't have bran remaining. If you're avoiding processed foods, this is one to avoid. The more 'instant' the oats are, the more processed they are.

This is my morning breakfast Quaker instant oatmeal, peanut butter, blueberries, banana, and honey. It is simple and easy for me also my grandson says it is healthy 😁💪
I am drinking from my saucer cause my cup has overflowed. Thank you Lord

Try this... It's honestly like eating some kind of dessert. Take a pint Mason jar and put in: 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats 1/2 cup of Plain Greek yogurt 1/2 cup of milk 1 heaping tsp of cocoa powder 1 heaping tbsp of honey (or brown sugar) 1 heaping tbsp of peanut butter 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use this stuff https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QZORGK/ref=twister_B07Y2J84JG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 because it is low in cholesterol and taste great.) Stir it all up, put on the lid and place it in the fridge over night. In the morning just grab it and go and eat it anytime you want for breakfast. It's great cold right out of the jar. I make basically the same thing, but use vanilla light and fit Greek yogurt (no vanilla protein powder), cocoa powder, Jif Natural Honey Peanut Butter (no extra honey), and water instead of milk. Only thing I don't like is making it, as it takes a while to make. God Bless, David B.

The only thing I know about steel cut is hipsters, vegans and "plant-based" eaters rave about them.
The steel cut are like eating them out of a feed sack. There's a whole lot of carbs in a bowl of oatmeal.

With the "overnight oats," is there any texture or is it just sludge? I haven't tried those because it sounds disgusting, but I'm not ruling it out.

Clem I haven't tried the overnight oats, but I did try steel cut oats prior to doing keto. I think you could soak steel cut oats in water for a week, then cook in an insta pot for 3 hours and they'd still be chewy.

There is lots of texture with overnight oats. That's why I make them that way. Cooked oats are too mushy.
