Ive added quaker oats to my diet, the old school oats in the big round can. I ate a bowl an hou and a half ago and im still full. I actually like them pretty good. Brought back some memories of when I was a little boy. Paw paw always ate a big bowl of oats in the morning before he went to the field or the woods. I can see why now, fills you up and sticks with you. Good stuff if you can stand to eat it.

We always called it oat meal, but we had them as kids too and I also loved them. My mother often added fruit, Strawberries, banana slices or raisins. Now I have grits every morning. I got off eggs for a while. My appetite changes.

Try this... It's honestly like eating some kind of dessert.

Take a pint Mason jar and put in:

1/2 cup of old fashioned oats
1/2 cup of Plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup of milk
1 heaping tsp of cocoa powder
1 heaping tbsp of honey (or brown sugar)
1 heaping tbsp of peanut butter
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

(I use this stuff https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QZORGK/ref=twister_B07Y2J84JG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 because it is low in cholesterol and taste great.)

Stir it all up, put on the lid and place it in the fridge over night.

In the morning just grab it and go and eat it anytime you want for breakfast. It's great cold right out of the jar.

Usually eat a bowl every morning. I use the ones that take about 5 min to cook not the instant. Little butter and brown sugar makes it pretty good

I'm not crazy about them but the steel cut oats are better than the regular, in my opinion.

I’m with the little rascals on mush I’m not a fan. I guess it’s from eating so much of it when I was a kid

We like to cut up a Granny Smith apple and pre cook it just before adding the oats with a little cinnamon.

I told my wife today some chopped up dried apples cooked in it would be good. She put cinnamon and honey in it this morning. Its 5:22 and I havent eaten anything since that bowl of oats this morning and im just now really getting hungry. I have stayed busy all day. Im pretty impressed with the performance of quaker oats.

What's the big deal with steel cut vs. regular, or is there?

The only thing I know about steel cut is hipsters, vegans and "plant-based" eaters rave about them.

If you need them sweetened, you can always put some raisins or dried cranberries in them or a little honey.
I eat mine plain now.

Or condensed milk and sugar, like normal folks.

Most folks eating oatmeal for health benefits avoid the sugar. laugh That's how I grew up eating it, though, and damned sure put a lot on mine.

I'm guessing the steel cut are thicker or different. One way of preparing them said to simmer for 20-30 minutes. Seems like a long time.
