You can have more taxes, and crappy roads, or less taxes and crappy roads. I know which one I'd choose.
Same locally. First year hartselle went wet, they brought in an additional $450k in sales tax (think that was about the number). The only thing new i've noticed in regards to the city is the mayor is driving a nice new truck.

Don't forget the electric car charging station they want to put in.

My daily commute just went from 1 hour to 1.5 each way. It was madness this morning.

Just got the following email from the Huntsville Chamber to employers

The Alabama Department of Transportation has closed U.S. 231 southbound and northbound in Lacey's Spring, in Morgan County. The road developed a crack earlier this week, which has worsened significantly. ALDOT officials say engineers are working on a solution, but the repair is expected to take a significant amount of time. ALDOT has said this portion of the road will be closed indefinitely.

Employers, please be aware this will affect your team members who travel to and from Morgan County. Please share the following information with them about detours:

Northbound Traffic:

The official detour is Alabama 69 southbound to Alabama 67 northbound to Alabama 36 eastbound to U.S. 231.

Commercial trucks will detour to Alabama 69 southbound, to Alabama 67 northbound, to Interstate 65 in Priceville.

Southbound Traffic:

The official detour is Alabama 36 westbound to Alabama 67 southbound to Alabama 69 northbound to U.S. 231.

Commercial trucks will detour to Alabama 36 westbound, to Alabama 67 southbound, to Alabama 69 northbound, back to U.S. 231.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed and expect delays due to traffic being reduced to a single lane in each direction.

We’ll share more information as we learn it, and please monitor your local news stations for the latest updates.

I left at 0715 this am, drove 1/4 mile north to the intersection at Union Hill, turned left and was bumper to bumper down Brindlee Mtn on Union Hill Road to 36, then same on 36 to 231. Maybe got up to 15 mph once. Everyone was polite, let cars in traffic, ect, but when the aggravation sets in its really going to get nasty. Took a little over an hour to get where I usually am in 15 minutes. As Cam said, 36 was completely shut down. This gentlemen is going to be a problem.

Y'all want to start a pool on when the first road rage shooting takes place?

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Caught me off guard this morning. Took me two hours (1hr longer) to get to work. I took Union Hill Road, but that stop sign off UHR onto 36 was a cluster phuck. I'll be going 431 till this gets fixed.

Good idea Bill, they've installed traffic lights at the Cotaco intersection now. I just came back from a Dr's appt and it took 8 minutes for me to clear that intersection @ 11:20 this morning. I'd be tempted to just shoot myself if I had to negotiate that at rush hour!!

Wait, at Cotaco they have a real red/green light now?

I thought you were talking about the 36/67 intersection, which has a blinker.

Clem, lights at both intersections. The Cotaco ones are installed on 36 and the intersections of the Cotaco/Florette and the Union Hill rd. There might even be one for the school also that I didn't notice. When I came through it appeared that each of the lights were timed the same regardless of the traffic flow. Heading west, even if you have the green you still have to stop and wait for the folks trying to turn onto those side roads against the oncoming traffic. Maybe they will iron that out today but either way it's going to be a major headache!!

Those idiots didn't figure out you have to get the seepage water out from under the asphalt when they did the last patch job? Looks like a couple of good French drains under the road would have fixed a lot of problems there.
