Sometimes you can take them apart and see an obvious part that is smoke-checked. Then get a part number on the board the bad capacitor (or whatever they are called) is soldered to, google it and order.

Buy a new one. Nobody really watches them anymore, they are either computer monitors or fancy nightlights around here.

I'd tear that sucker down just to see how it worked and maybe I might see something I can fix in the process. AFTER I got a new one or had it ordered.

Y'all know anybody in the Huntsville - Guntersville area that repairs tv's? Got home this evening and our 47" Vizio didn't want to turn on, finally came on with a very dim pucture for 5 seconds or so and then a black screen. Did this several times with like results with a few times nothing at all, menu or nothing will show. Thanks If its not under warranty, trash it. I recently bought a Samsung 55" 4k smart tv for about $380 at best buy

Well nearly nobody works on TV's any more. But if you wanted to you could order a new power supply online and try it. Those things have switching power supplys that are the week link. Take a shot for $40. If that isn't it you might as well buy a new one.

I've got an older TV with the same problem. It sounds like, you have the same problem I do. It is most likely a bad capacitor and will take more of your time than money to fix.
