Has anyone else heard about this? I know there are 2 sides to every story, so I’m reserving judgment till I know the facts, but even half of what’s being reported is true, this is a mockery of justice.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This should be all over the news, and maybe it is, but I haven’t heard a peep of it, and it happened 20 miles from my house.

Sounds like a legit case of self defense and defense of others.

Well, they lied twice right from the beginning. Lying about being raped might be understandable in some way, but lying about who shot him because of getting a fair trial is a sign of something else probably going on

Sounds like that judge needs to get kicked off the bench. The legal system is broke. Not only in Alabama. Two women fought over a man in the French Quarter. One stabbed the other to death. A judge sentenced her to weekend home confinement. WTH, Can you top that ? Weekend home confinement and NO JAIL TIME !

I agree there's (hopefully) more to the story. But I can't get past the fact that said perp had "more than 80 previous arrests"!

WTH is going on up there in Ole High Jackson?

I read the original story in the New Yorker and the updated one after her trial.

I take things with grains of salt. But this, in this county and state, doesn't surpise me at all to be honest.

Elaborate... I know I don’t really stay on top of news, but I don’t recollect many, if any, high profile cases in Jackson Co. They are throwing out accusations about women getting hosed left and right here, but this is the only case like this I know of.

I don't know of other cases that have received this high of a profile up that way, either.

My meaning was, and is, that it does not surprise me one iota to learn or hear about women often not receiving the same "stand your ground" outcomes as men. There's often seems to be underlying "she's a slutty whore" or "she had it coming" or "he wasn't doin' nothing wrong" attitudes that end up playing out to the detriment of the accuser. And not just in the county up there.

The woman who wrote the story said "every" woman she spoke with told stories about some kind of abuse. There's a lot of women in Jackson County. I doubt she talked with many of them, or a lot of them. I doubt some woman would spill her guts about abuse to a stranger writing a story for a liberal magazine. If she talked with five or six, maybe so. Thus one reason I take things with salt.

Sadly, though, a life was taken and lives are in turmoil. It sounds like a really bad deal all around.

I have read some on this and can't understand why it isn't justifiable. If a man wants to try and rape a woman who is armed he's asking to get his azz shot.
