Ya'll know I've gone back and forth a few times on what to do with my new 1895 I got for Christmas. Originally I wanted to stay with iron sights, but after the first hunt with it I realize I couldn't see the iron sights as soon as the light started fading away. Then thought red dot, but the more I read, the more I leaned towards putting a scout scope on it. First time I've used a scout scope, so it'll take a little getting used to 12" of eye relief. I went with the Burris Scout in a 2-7x32, XS Scout Rail, and Warne QD rings.

Here's the final product! I have her laser bore sighted (SL100) and will hit the range tomorrow to verify it. Then up to camp to hunt tomorrow (Conecuh County where the rut if finally starting!). Wish me luck!

I would love to keep iron sights on all my lever guns. Unfortunately my eyes no longer share that desire.
So far I've kept my old 94, 30-30 all original and use it for stalking the thickets. But had to put optics on the others.
You'll probably love the 45/70 for average ranges, it's a big hammer.

Looks good bud. Now go wear the blueing off that loading gate and lob some lead down range.

Be sure and drop it at least once. Nice looking outfit.

Ranger Precision has a bunch of aftermarket parts for the Marlin if you want to tinker further. I tried their drop in trigger, but prefer the Wild West Happy trigger. The tricked out 1895 in 45-70 has their medium lever, quick takedown pin, Wolf reduced power spring, and loading gate. 7 shots within an 1"@100 yards w/ the Hornady 250 gr monoflex. They're pricey to reload but have been proven to penetrate better than the 300 gr bullets. Nice thing about Marlins is they're pretty easy to take down completely.

Beautiful rifle. Let us know how she shoots.

I like the big loop. How’s the recoil on that unit?

I gotta have optics now. I can see the deer fine, just not the sights.

Thanks! She shoots great!! Nice little thumper, but not as bad as I thought it would be with a 45-70. Unfortunately I wasn't able to draw blood with it this past weekend, but I did sling some lead at the range Friday before I went to hunt camp.

I’m a lever fanatic. That GBL is setup sweet.

Ranger point did a few of my custom lever rifles when they were still doing them. They took a couple of liberties, one was a tigger job. When I installed a WWG trigger it was about 1/4 lb pull so I took it out and put the factory trigger in. I like the WWG trigger myself. I love the fellas at Ranger point but I personally only care for their loading gate. They tweaked my factory gate too and accurized my 444 with for-end cap. (Something you can do yourself). Luckily there are many aftermarket product companies so you can pick and choose yourself. I like the WWG ejector but it ain’t necessary and I know how it came about because their were unknowingly two different specs on the ejector, one would cause a case override jam.

Ranger Point coated this 69 Texan in gunmetal blue and did the wood so the rifle would look forever old but durable and weather resistant. A side note, the owners wife is from Mobile. Good folk.

Probably a touch under 8lbs. The bare gun is right around 7, scope is 13oz, plus the rings and rail.

She balances perfectly while carrying just before the lever under the loading port.
