We put a couple of feeders out last week and put corn out around them for some out of state guests. None of them wanted to hunt one of the fields with a feeder this afternoon so I went there. Saw plenty of deer but the most entertaining thing was a possum camped under the feeder all afternoon chowing down. A forkhorn with one side broke off decided he wanted some corn but that possum was camped under it. The buck would approach with his head down and then back away. I imagine but couldn't hear to verify that the possum was hissing and baring teeth over his corn pile. The buck did this several times before he finally ate on the edge of where the feeder could sling the corn until he got more interested in the does on the other side of the field. The possum finally waddled off and there were deer under the feeder when I got down when legal shooting hours were over.

Bottom line I saw at least 5 bucks and 10 does. Only 1 buck and three does were interested in the feeder though.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Fun and funny afternoon. if these feeders are going to create wildlife confrontations, the entertainment may make it worth doing.

Having feeders out this year was a hurdle for some of our group. The best thing it did for us was to kill the negative comments like the neighbors are feeding them slap off our lease. I also agree that an enhanced wildlife viewing experience can occur as a result of feeding which is nice too ! Possums ain't nothing to play with !!

Jawbone ive had the best season ever and I havent fired a shot. I moved my shooting house to the sw corner of my field, we were sitthin on the north uphill side, and ive been able to get in and out without being noticed. That along with a good food plot and being able to put out corn and hunt over it has run my deer sightings through the roof. Its certainly not just the corn but thats part of it. Watching this field I guess im averaging 10deer in the evening and 4-5 if I hunt a couple hours in the morning. Ive been able to sit and watch multiple deer for long periods of time and have spent several hours watching bucks we might have shot in years past. Perch told me a few weeks ago that you learn way more watching than you will killing, he was sure right about that. It has sure been a blessing and a learning experience watching these deer interact with eachother.
