My son was able to get his first deer yesterday evening and it was a buck at that. So like tradition around the Cobb house, he got his face bloodied up and got to wear the bucks testicles while we cleaned the deer. So my question is does anyone else have the same traditions for the first deer as us?

War paint! My son got his 1st deer this year too. I was in the stand with him to make sure he didnt shot himself. The rest was him. Spotted it, shot it, tracked it, dragged it, processed it. That is our tradition.....teach , teach.

Had my face bloodied. Never had to wear a testicle though.

I've told this story before, but in the 70's near Clayton we were dog hunting one morning. A young guy shot his first buck and was running around hollering "Ain't nobody gonna bloody me". We caught him, tied him to a pecan tree, bloodied his face and to top it off we wrapped the guts around his neck, little smartass.

I out ran the entire hunting club at 8y/o. I stayed gone several hours lol. Needless to say I didn't get my face bloodied like most, I got my head dunked into a bucket of blood for my actions lol. We had a lady here (Oregon) shoot her first elk and I asked why they weren't doing anything, they now bloody the face like we do. She was a champ about it. I have also cut a shirt tail... Congrats to you guys getting the kids out hunting.
