This is very troubling. Slick leftist lawyers playing word games.

What should I be remembering? Was thinking it was an old bill saw the 1-19-20 date but just now saw it was a 6+ year old article. I guess my reading comprehension sucks.

HB8 was approved : Yes 736,462 72.50% …….. No 279,397 27.50% https://ballotpedia.org/Alabama_Right_to_Bear_Arms,_Amendment_3_(2014) and here https://legiscan.com/AL/text/HB8/2013 While HB8 may seem a strong pro gun stance for us Alabamians here is an excerpt from the article that is very wary of the passing of this bill by Publius Huldah , retired attorney, constitutional scholar and logician extraordinaire, from the article ,,, The proposed Amendment 3 takes away the God-given or natural right of self-defense recognized in the existing wording of Article I, Section 26 of the Declaration of Rights of the Alabama Constitution; and transforms it into a mere "fundamental right" which is subject to whatever restrictions the Alabama State government might later decide to impose. A "fundamental right" [as opposed to a God-given or natural right] is a government created and regulated "right." This concept is being used to strip us of the God-given unalienable rights mentioned in our Declaration of Independence (2nd para), and replace them with "fundamental rights" which are subject to whatever restrictions the government wishes to impose. The proposed Amendment 3 is a treacherous scheme to deprive the People of Alabama of the God-given right of self-defense. The existing wording of Article I, § 26 does not permit the State government to impose ANY restrictions on your God-given right to self-defense. If The People of Alabama ratify proposed Amendment 3, they will thereafter bear arms ONLY if the Alabama government says they can. Don't be deceived by Alabama Statewide Amendment 3. It's a Trojan horse that will one day bite the hand that votes for it. Alabama, be wise and vote "NO" on this terrible amendment! Read into the arguments in Ballotpedia . IMO … Obama and the takeover of the planet planned by the U.N. with ultra wealthy elitists full support ,,, it took Obamas second term to get something like this accomplished in his time,,,, our legislature voted for it first and then the people voted it into law.... now who in the hell would have thought for a moment that God Given rights and fundamental rights were so far apart that Alabama's govt could and/or would take or restrict our ability to bear arms away. I voted no and have been terrified of gun confiscation ever since its passing,,,, Is it a fact that our 2nd amendment comes with the protection of the constitution of the United states and that it supersedes all else, is it going to work for and protect Virginia citizens who are right now under attack by its governor and legislators wanting to take their guns away.

What they are saying is that while it seems to tighten gun rights it just makes into the constitution the Strict Scrutiny legal standard to make gun control laws. Depending on the judges, this may in fact make gun control laws happen. The key would be if judges felt it met the Strict Scrutiny standard of meaning that something is of such an overriding health concern to others to override your Rights. I probably know what it means better than I can explain it.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
