Looking at a couple cars in MS and LA. How much in addition to their state tax will I have to pay when I bring it back to AL?

Thanks

You will only pay taxes on the vehicle in the state you live in.

I have bought both new and used in Mississippi. The used vehicle was from an individual and I paid no Mississippi tax just paid Alabama when I registered it. I can't remember on the new one from the dealership but I don't think they charged Mississippi tax, if they did it wasn't much but it's been 10 years or more on that one. They did deliver the new one to Alabama so that may have made a difference too.

They will be glad to let you know when you register it. I think it is based on what your county charges plus the state. You might have to call and ask your local tax and license office if you want exact numbers.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If you really want to get wild, set up a shell company in Montana.

Do Connecticut, it’s much easier and cheaper
80% of Connecticut’s tax base is out of state and shell companies

I’d be surprised if anything in Connecticut was cheap.

You would be surprised then, Connecticut is very business friendly

I'm not very familiar with any of it but I know for a fact there are many Ferraris, Lamborghinis and large diesel pusher Tiffins running around with Montana tags.

Don't let the other state collect , because Alabama WILL collect when you title it .

"Why do you ask"?

If you are buying at a dealership, they will collect the tax and send it to Alabama. More than likely they will send in the estimated amount and it will be off slightly so your local courthouse will not accept the check. You will have to contact the dealer with the exact amount and they will have to make someone at the courthouse figure out how to send back the first check so they can cut another check for the exact amount and then a second check to you for the overage. Of course the courthouse will not tell you the exact amount ahead of time over the phone. They will only do it when you bring your paperwork up there to make your first attempt at getting it tagged and titled.

or so i've heard.

Bought one at an auction here in Bama when I lived in Florida.
Do not do that. Apparently, Florida got offended.
