Im getting too old for this. Been climbing for about 22yrs. It definitely hurts more than it used to, but im not slowing down any. I topped this one in 2hrs. Thats PDQ, in case you didnt know. It was right up against the house so there was alot of roping. Did another one just a little smaller as soon as I got out of this one. Pretty neat way to make a living. Its been hard work but I cant imaging doing anything else. Blessed I guess.

That's what they make bucket trucks for 😃

That looks extremely dangerous! You must be good at if you’re still alive after doing it that long. I may have a couple for you in a couple of months after I finish paying for my back surgery 🤕.

I used to be a telephone lineman and I can attest to the stamina and overall good health that it takes to climb day in and day out. Hang in there but don't stay too long.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I climbed literally thousands of poles earlier in life. My knees ain't worth a crap now. Now a days I love my bucket truck.

If there was a million dollars tied to the limb you're sitting on, I wouldn't climb up there to get it.

To me its just the way I make my living. No different than any other job. I dreaded this tree because I knew how much effort it would take and what id feel like afterword. I woke up several times last night and layed in bed and prayed, asking the Lord to just help it go well and give me the strength to get through it. The difference in this job when all goes well and when nothing works like you want it to is night and day. I used to really enjoy climbing, I was making a living doing something that excited me. Most of the excitement has worn off but I do still enjoy my work. The Lord blessed me with a skill I could use to support my family and enough work that I dont have to kill myself working for that other guy. For those of you who said you couldnt do it. You never know what you might do when you get hungry. Believe it or not, I am a little afraid of heights. If I were to be on the edge of a 200ft bluff looking off, I get that same anxious feeling everybody does. If it wasnt for me trusting my gear, id be terrified.

Awesome!! I’ve climbed a many a tree in my earlier years when working ROW. Then went on to climbing poles. It takes a special breed to do what you do for a living.

A good friend is a Tree Trimmer. I helped him on several jobs over the years, but we are both too old and fat to climb now. I have never had a fear of heights as I worked in construction for several years, BUT, it takes a little getting used to to be able to trust your equipment when your hanging from a piece of rope 50 feet above a concrete slab. One day right after I started helping him he was piecing down a water oak over a house. I was the ground man easing the chunks down with a rope. He had cut several smallish chunks and I had let them down without a wrap. He would cut them free and as they swung out away from the house I would let the rope slip through my gloves as they cleared the house. They were small pieces so I was letting the rope go completely as they cleared the gutter. It was working great. For a while that is. He cut one bigger chunk and we both underestimated its weight by a long shot. As it started down, it was dropping way to fast for the amount of tension I had been putting on the rope. It should have been doing more swinging and less dropping. As mentioned above I was free roping this one. All I could do was to cinch down on the rope tight to keep it from crashing through the roof and it carried me for a ride. It picked me up about 10 feet off of the ground and I flew about 40 feet laterally before I hit the ground again. Talk about an adrenaline rush. I was able to keep it off the roof, but barely. I got up, dusted myself off and wrapped the rope around another nearby tree that was to come down also for the rest of the job. It didn't matter if it was a piece no bigger than my wrist, the rope got wrapped before it was cut free. LOL Tough dangerous job you do there JWalker. Stay alert, especially around energized lines.

Im ok cutting the lower limbs with a rope above but topping the tree scares the shucks out of me. I cut a big poplar tree out of my back yard dropping it piece by piece. It took me a couple days to get the nerve to top it. I tied the rope as high as I could and cut it about 3/4 way thru then climed down and snatched it to break it out.
