I’ve just about decided this is perhaps THE defining difference between the true killas and the rest of us.
I got a buddy popped a 6-1/2 year old buck this week.
This guy every year kills 1, 2 or 3 really nice ones in January.
Here’s the key difference. He goes every morning, every evening even if it’s just 15-20 minutes. It’s what he does.
He once hunted 54 days straight.
There are more of these guys among us than you realize. Some of em are on here but don’t post much.
After 3 or 4 days of anything, I’m ready to do something different.
These cats are a breed apart.

A breed apart, or have a way better job situation that allows them to do it rofl

I guess in the end the point is that if you want it that bad, you are going to make the time. I just like not being fired.

Time and good property. I hunted a 154 acres in Jackson County for 11 years and took 13 bucks over 125". I didn't hunt a lot until January but once January came I hunted around 20 days. Most of the time only coming out of the woods for an hour around lunch. For the last several years I've hunted mostly in Alabama on 100 acres of family land that isn't anything special and still don't spend much time in the woods until late January into February. I still usually kill a good deer off it most years but I'll spend 10 to 14 days straight in the woods to get that 1 shot. I'm blessed to have the time to devote to it. Time, decent property and not stinking up the woods checking cameras and hunting when odds are low seem to work pretty good for me.

exactly.......I'd love to be able to go every morning before work, or every afternoon after work, even if just for 20-30 minutes. But I have to get 2 kids ready for school and then take them to school every morning, and I work until 430-5pm, so it's not a matter of "intensity" or "drive", it's a matter of there simply isn't the time to do it. I'm envious of those that have the time to do it

There are days when I wished I lived where I was born and I think of all the good times I could have had sitting on the back porch every night in the Summer and maybe hunting every single day during deer season right out my back door.

And then the phone in my office rings.

My BIL is the same way. Hunts darn near every day. He killed 2 nice bucks last year. The 1st at 27 days straight and the next 6 days later.

Thats a plus about my new job, 4 days off after every 4 work days. It hasn't translated into kills yet, but it's awesome being able to hunt this much.

If my off days would coincide half thetime with half decent weather it would be nice.

Im lucky enough to go everyday I choose to my club is within in mins of my house. I get home everyday at 3 from work but I also don’t kill a lot either lol! I made the sacrifice not to have kids so I do miss out on a lot of things you guys have! It can be a double edge sword

Time in the woods and location have everything to do with it.

I hunted 4 times before Jan.1 I've hunted 5 times since, taking the last 2 weeks of January off, and will be after them everyday!! It's the time to be in the woods, and no I'm not a stone cold killer either!! If I dont kill him then, it will be time to get ready for March, whichever day it opens this year!!

I’ve seen more 120”+ bucks on a 160 acre tract I used to hunt than I did several thousand acre tracts in better parts of the state. I think it had a lot to do with low pressure on the smaller tract plus I was forced to concentrate on a smaller area.

yeah, you learned the land better. I've always had folks tell me when hunting huge public lands to not try to hunt all of it - it's just too overwhelming - just pick a few hundred acres at a time and pretend that's all it is

I don’t hate them that bad any more.

Same here. And now that all the skill you need is to have $6 for a bag of corn at the Walmart, I’m kind of just done with it. I can save my back and just shoot targets now and save a ton of money, time, effort, and wear on my equipment.

I lost the drive to sit in the woods for hours on end scratching my ass a long time ago. I love the woods, but I have to be moving. Maybe that's why chasing turkeys is all I do anymore.

I have always said that using the wind, scent, certain camo, and many tactics can help kill a buck. But when they are near rut or are chasing, the biggest thing you can do to greatly help your chances is just being in the woods. Be in the right place at the right time. The only other thing that would come close to time in the woods is if you shoot a 6.5 creedmore.

I used to hunt every chance I got, but now I don’t hunt until January in Alabama. I just bought my license today lol. After running a club and keeping harvest records for over twenty years and monitoring game cameras it became crystal clear that when my kill criteria went up it was not productive to hunt before January. If I want to see some does I just look in my backyard and since I don’t live in the city I don’t have the need to go run sit in a tree to get away from the hustle and bustle. When I go sit in my tree most of the day it is for one reason only....because i feel the odds are in my favor to kill a good buck.
