Just got the call from my Dad that he shot a good 8 point. The deer was quartering to him. The deer kicked and hauled butt out of the field and into the woods. He didn't hear the deer crash but it stopped running as soon as it entered the woods. While listening for any sign the deer was down, he heard it start coughing loudly several times. After hearing that he got down and called me. I am about to head up and check out the impact site. Do you guys think he got 1 lung since the deer was quartering or what. I have never heard one coughing before.

Must've have SMOKED him 😀 Good Luck! Hopefully yall will find him, I've killed several that way, but they've usually fell right where they stood. However i did have one turn just as soon as i pulled the trigger 😯 Had to call a dog for that one (found him still alive)

I'd give him at least and hour to lay there and bleed out. Don't rush and jump him. They can run a mile on Adrenalin when they are already dead. Good Luck

Sounds like the deer is having breathing problems, so one lung must be hit at least. Youll recover him I believe if you let him sit four hours without pushing him. Good luck and congrats to your dad.

I always wait , in the stand, at least a hour unless dropped in it tracks. If the blood is minimal at the impact site, I back out and wait another 4-6 hours.

Found very little blood at impact site. Walked to entry of woods and only a few drops. Headed home going to come back in the morning. Not too sure about this one.

Weather is hot and yotes are bad, everywhere.
I'd be in there at 6:30 p.m.with a good light and I'd track that buck.
I just could not wait till morning with these conditions.

Bullet probably entered brisket and didn't exit is the reason for no blood loss
