My buddy at work is a very well read guy and a student of politics and history. We've know each other for about 25 years. He and I were talking about the escalation if the events between the U.S. and Iran this morning over coffee and he has an interesting theory...
He thinks that Iran actually has been wanting better relationships with the U.S for some time, which I agree with. This Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani headed up a very powerful and hard line faction in the Iranian government that was blocking any positive overtures to the U.S. So, some moderate faction in the Iranian government, through some secret deal with the Trump administration, released to U.S. intelligence the time and place where this guy would be most vulnerable. With the tactic approval of the Iranian moderates the U.S. takes this guy out per the plan and in turn allows the Iranians fire off some missiles that intentionally miss our troops per the agreement. This saves face with their more hawkish constituency. SO now in their minds we're all even.
Now cooler heads prevail, negotiations begin, and President Trump works with them to put together some kind of deal.
Notice there's been no tremendous outcry by the Chinese or Russians?
Remember when Trump Twittered something to the effect of: "Iran has never won a war, but they have won a negotiation." Remember that?
He may have been hinting at this deal.
Just food for thought.

Makes a lot of sense. Many folks have pointed out the missiles all missed... every one. I, as well as many others, think that was on purpose.

We should make the whole damn place a glass desert. Kill them all, Iran, Syria, Iraq Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, the entire Mediterranean area. Kill them all. Every last damn one.

There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

I've said that for years, turn the whole frackin place in to the world's largest butterbean patch. As fun and bellicose as that sounds, it just not plausible. The US dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki changed all that forever. There are just too many weapons of mass destruction available to our allies and enemies alike to risk an all out World War III over a few countries being pissed off at each other and acting irrationally. The entire fate of humanity hangs in the balance of a few politicians getting their panties in a wad over a series of relatively minor incidents, perceived slights and name calling. As I mentioned in the other thread. one minor Arch Duke gets assassinated and an entire World War broke out over it and then in turn spawned a global depression and then a subsequent World War if that wasn't bad enough, today the stakes are much higher... The destruction of the entire human race.

Looks like you were right... Even Trump in his speech didn't blame the Iranian people and specifically targeted the leadership of Iran specifically the General as bad actors in the situation. He then offered an olive branch to Iran at the end. I honestly think it's playing out.

This theory of your friends is gaining some traction..... Trump is the master deal maker and if there is truly some government pieces in place that want a more democratic/successful Iran then he has the chance to lock down a historic treaty/deal with them. Yep.

Your friend may have nailed it. Definitely sounds like there is something in the works behind the scenes. Trump pulling off some sort of real concrete deal with Iran would be huge from a historical perspective.

Anybody that can design/build a cabin in the woods ain’t no dummy. And the Donald isn’t either. But whoever it is it’s spot on.
