We just lost around 3,000 acres to TVA and solar panel farm in the TN valley today. This isn’t good.

Is there any tillable land in the valley still enrolled in the CRP?

Very little. And if it is most of it shouldn’t be tilled anyway by now

It’s funny because my company has the maintenance contract for the first ever molten salt reactor. It worked flawlessly for a couple years before they shut it down. You don’t see any commercial salt reactors because the water reactor pilot plants proved their concept a couple months before the salt reactor, so everyone started building water reactors. Now that a lot of water reactors are reaching their end of service life, people are kicking themselves because the salt reactors are much more stable, cleaner, efficient, safer, and last longer. Scientists are now revisiting 50 year old technology and realizing its the best we have come up with yet.

Problem with the wind and solar is of course they produce nothing when the sun is not shining or wind isn't blowing. But the real kicker is you can't shut down the coal, gas or nuclear plants even when the renewables are producing because it takes days to get a plant back up and running. Its not like you just flip a switch or breaker and have instant full generation again. How are you going to produce anything like that.

Gas plants come on and off line as needed. Nukes only when they have too. Alot of gas plants only run during the peak demand time.

We have coal burning power plants where it would literally take up a whole county of solar panels to match the power production of those plants...

...And that's just when the sun is shining, and not to even mention power storage.

It's crazy where the left/green people get their information and think for one second with current technology that we can completely replace fossil fuels. It's is going to have to be a gradual thing with gas and nuclear being important steps along the way as well as vastly improves storage technology.

Gas fired CTs, yes. Gas fired CC's, no.
CCs usually produce 250mw to over 600mw. CT's usually range 25-125 maybe 150.
CT's are almost twice the cost per mw vs CC. CCs are a part of base loaded units since coal was attacked and drove prices out the roof
CC's can take 1-2 hrs to get on, CTs 10-30min.
CCs have to stay offline for 8hr min down time.

I say all that because there is a big difference between the two. Gas plants don't just come on and off as they wish while running. There's min up and down time for each one. Then you have all the EPA crap that limits the amount of hours per cal year and startups. Really not as simple as most think.

That's probably true, and largely due to EPA regs on coal plants.
Most of the new generation, built in the past 20 years, is natural gas fired turbines.

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

We have our own gas companies now...
