If you are going into a new spot in the morning that you've never been, do you wait and go in with a little bit of daylight, or do you just go in before daylight and cross your fingers?

Wait a few minutes. You might find a good spot or you might set up where you can't see worth a flip.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

Wait till you can see and stalk/scout all morning at a snails pace. The ground is wet so you can be super stealthy today. Bucks are about to bust wide open here in North Alabama so good luck.

I almost never go to any stand in the dark. I have killed a couple of real good bucks by slowly slipping in at first shooting light. One of them was standing right under my stand when I shot him.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

This.
I'll come out after dark, but I rarely go in before first light.

I would probably.just make it an evening hunt and go in the 1st time at noonish. that being said I like to go in early enough that after I get settled I still have to wait at least 1/2 hour before I can see. IMO going in at daybreak is a bad idea and rather than do that I'd wait til I could see.

Depends on where I’m hunting. I’ve killed several slipping in still and quiet just after day light. I’d rather do that than blow deer out walking in before light.

I go in before daylight. I always face the wind and never face uphill. Your first sit in an area is often your most productive.
I can't count the number of times that I've been up a tree before daylight and had deer walk past me. Once I had used a drag rag and the buck walked around grunting. I'd have never know those deer were around if I hadn't been in the tree.

Perch.Explain the never face uphill part. What is the benefit? How in the heck do you get to your tree? Are you talking about once in your tree? Or do you just hunt ridge tops?

Agree with going in at the crack. I walk in as soon as I can see without a light.

I get into an area way before daylight if I see an area based off the topo map, but where I climb will be decided after daylight.

Go in when you can just start to see. Slip in. Walk slowly for about 50 yards, stop and be still. Ease on forward another 50 and stop. I'm going to make a video about this one day. I've killed most of my deer slipping through the woods. You have to be slow in your movements though. A deer can spot fast movement from a long way off.

I’ve been watching the Hunting Public a good bit. Those guys can flat out stalk a deer and they do it most of the time with a bow in hand.

LOL Jwalker. Most of these goobers don't know who charlie is ! Dave most of the deer I've killed were travel down a ridge towards the bottom or just about the bottom walking parallel to it, usually just after daylight or before dark. Traveling close to thick cover towards or from ag fields or food plots. I seldom sit on food plots but hunt travel corridors instead. Food plots stay untouched until the rut.
