not many folks would stay as cool as Shoemaker and make those shots under that pressure, but he has been in on a couple hundred Brown Bear kills in his career.

The militaries of the World use 9mm, because they aren't trying to kill people they are trying to wound them. Hate to disagree with our resident chef, but the militaries of the world choose the low bidder. Has nothing to do with lethality.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Deer get shot in the bread basket with 200 gr bullets and run off. Not sure why you are disappointed.

not many folks would stay as cool as Shoemaker and make those shots under that pressure, but he has been in on a couple hundred Brown Bear kills in his career. I had a pretty good debate with a fellow on FB about this very article. I made the statement that, I bet MOST ppl using proper ammo (read hardcast lead) would stand a better chance stopping a grizzly with a 9mm than a 44 mag. He lost his crap and accused me of all sorts of stuff like being a 9mm fanboy etc. 1st of all, every handgun I own except a few are .40. I dont carry a 9 and hardly ever shoot one. That being said, I would say more folks can put 9mm bullets on target MUCH faster and effectively than a 44 or any other big bore. 44 is a sweetheart compared to a bunch of these Alaska style handcannons. I only know maybe one or 2 folks who can rapidly AND ACCURATELY shoot a 44 mag. I own a SW 629 and admit I suck with it. You’re counting on a bullet striking the brain or spinal cord to shut down a charging critter. Shooting them in the vitals does no good. You can’t explain this stuff to ppl though.

I've read a bunch of what Shoemaker has written on bears. He usually carries a 44mag but wanted to carry something lighter while guiding fishing. He did a LOT of research on 9mm loads before he carried one guiding.

Phil Shoemaker has seen more bears killed than most. If Bama had a bear season and Phil told me to set up in a McDonald's parking lot I would man knows bears.
Only hits count.

So the militaries of the world can't get low bidder brand X in a stouter caliber?

I take care of people all the time that get shot. A 9mm will kill you just as dead as a 45. The hole night not be as big but depending on what you hit it don’t matter. I promise the person that gets shot doesn’t say. I’m glad they only used a 9mm.

It's all about shot placement. The 9mm's claim to fame has always been their capacity.

several Federal agencies tried bigger handguns but found that the sissy lawyers and girly girls couldn't handle the heavier recoil and reverted to the 9mms. FACT.

This ^ Ever wonder why the NYPD surrounds a perp and everybody dumps their mag if one shot goes off? It ain’t cause 9mm is a badass thumper. It’s because they want to go home at the end of their shift.

I’ve been shooting a 9mm for thirty years. Mostly due to its size for a CC. And if I were a bad guy, deer or hog I wouldn’t want to be on the other end of my shot placement. And that goes for my 38, 357, 44 and 22. Shot often if you want to shoot well and know your ammo.
