Ok plummers. I admit i was wrong. I give up. I hate copper pipe! Im renovating my house and realize its time to upgrade my copper water lines and my cast iron drains. They are all 50yrd old. If i look at them wrong, they leak. Im tired of patching the copper lines. Im starting today with all new pex. I bought it from home depot cause its 1 mile away from my house. And i bought their pex clamp pliers that light up when clamped.

My question is....what style connector pliers do i use and where do i buy them? What style clamps? I need them like right now. I can return this stuff if its junk. Any tips? I figured id ask before i started.

Personally I hate pex. It's a pain the ass and none of the connections will last.
PVC and copper is the most reliable.

Yeah im with you there. My entire house has copper. I never have used the pex. I had a few leaks and soldered copper to fix them. But now im changing sub floor and found another leak and its 50yrs old. So im gonna try to swap it all over to pex. Im gonna use the brass fittings and not the plastic. Hopefully it will work good. The connections just seem sketchy to me.

The nylon connections work better imo the brass will deteriorate in some areas very quickly. Home we had in Foley the water would literally eat the brass dang near faster than you could change them. I re-plumbed everything with the nylon connectors had no more trouble.

I think pex is pretty trustworthy. My current house and last house were both plumbed entirely with pex and never had an issue with the pex itself. I changed out my water heater with brass fittings and it hasn't given me any trouble either.

I've heard some bad stuff about the shark bites failing. I personally wpulsbt trust them in an enclosed space like a wall.

Shark bites are OK for a quick, temporary fix. Pros use brass crimp and the real PEX brand.

Use the uponor brand of pex.. It takes an expansion ring instead of that crimp chit. More consistant connections and better pipe in my opinion

Reno has the best advice.

I didn't use that though, I ordered almost all my stuff for the cabin from here:

https://www.pexuniverse.com/

And so far it has held up well. I used the brass bands and I bought this tool set from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GNU9BH8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It worked just like it was supposed to and we have had zero issues. I honestly like working with PEX better than any other plumbing I have ever done. I ran all of our stuff from a central manifold with "home runs" to every single outlet in the cabin. I don't have a single splice or tee in the entire cabin. The only joints I have are at the manifold and at the actual plumbing fitting.

The main reason I went with this rather than what Reno suggested, is that our cabin is a pretty good drive to anywhere. And since I don't have a plumbing truck stocked with all the various pieces I needed, I wanted a system that was compatible with stuff I could get on a quick run to Lowes in Ft. Payne.

Do your own research like I did regarding tools, types and brands of pipe and types and brands of fittings.

The only time I think I would use a Sharkbite fitting is if it was an emergency or a place where I couldn't get a tool.

Thanks for the replies.

I didnt see this leak coming and was unprepared. I had to buy from home depot due to after hour repair needs. I used brass fittings with the crimp fittings. I hope they hold up. I wish i had time cause i can order all the parts off the internet for half the price. I didnt even have time to run across town to a commercial plumbing store. It cost me double on clamp fittings.

My house copper is 50yrs old. During the renovation process i see leaks so im swapping it all out from the street to fixtures. Its not fun. Ain't no way i could be a plummer in these nasty crawl spaces everyday. My crawl space renovation is next lol.

I have never had any problems with the crimp rings. I bought my tool at Ferguson supply in Bham
