I will get flamed for this and probably called a higher than now. I had huge issues with this show. Watched the 1st episode and forbid it in my house. I never understand people allowing crap in their house via their TV that they would never let pass their front door. I had the same issue with Married with Children and Desperate House Wives.

... Is it normal to be watching a TV show and you honestly hope that everyone in the show gets killed? ... HA! i watched several of the shows ... very dark show ... the crippled dude is pure evil; was hoping he'd get killed off much sooner TBH ... my take-away was - they're Vikings - raping & pillaging is part of their deal; they're certainly not going to win any awards from Habitat for Humanity ...

Remember the original Star Trek. They had an episode or two where they were transposed to some kind of parallel universe where there was this "Evil" Star Trek crew on an "Evil" USS Enterprise. Well... "The Vikings" make me think of the evil Star Trek crew.

The show is based on the real thing. That's what the Vikings did. I have no problem with the show and actually like it a lot. I believe there have been lots of online discussions focused on just how inaccurate that show is at depicting what the real vikings were like. Not saying that Vikings weren't badasses or didn't kill a lot of people, but the show is a show designed for entertainment purposes.

My problem with the show is that they don't have subtitles. I have a hard time interpreting what they are saying half of the time.
When the actors are mostly Americans and English and they try to create an accent that no-one alive knows what it would sound like you get these folks that no one can understand.

I haven't watched it for the last few year's. But I like it. It got difficult trying to remember them English towns watching it every season. What are y'all streaming it on. Is is a Netflix show? You really can't understand modern u.s. Christianity without understanding the Vikings.

Actually, I've watched this show from the beginning and they have had the actors and actresses travel with Viking experts to learn about how they lived. They had 1 hour shows preceding the actual viking show a few years back, showing them at known viking lands and villages. No, its not a documentary, but they do try and portray it as accurately as they can, especially it being Hollywood.

I'm watching it on Amazon Prime.
What do you mean by understanding Christianity? Just my opinion, but Christianity had somewhat stabilized in Europe at the time. All the Celts, Druids, Germanic Tribes, Gauls, ect had been subjugated by the Romans (or at least regionalized) and the muslims hadn't been riled up by the Crusades yet (1081 ad). The biggest threat to Christianity at that time ( Lindisfarne raid was 793) were the pagan vikings. Like the Black Plague (1346) Europe, and being predominately Christian, felt the scourge of the Vikings was God sent to punish them for their sins. Christianity was reshaped by the external threat of these raiding pagan devils who feared nothing and sought death in battle as the only way to gain eternity in Valhalla. They were a threat to their existence. This shook faith in Christianity and being that kings ruled by the grace of God and the entire society was structured around this belief. There was a saying at the time that there are three types of people you cannot deal with. First is a low born man who has come into a large sum of money. Second is a man of no worth under the protection of a rich and powerful man. Third is a Viking.

when the vikings started living among the English Christians, the 2 religions kinda merged into one. the Christians adopted some of the pagan traditions so they they didnt lose any followers and helped the pagans transition into Christians. American holidays are influenced alot by the pagan celebrations. Most of our(Americans) holidays were adopted by Christians (christian is a pagan word, before they were called follower or disciples). Easter(spring celebration), Halloween(fall celebration) and Christmas (winter celebration). Basically they had a celebration for each of the seasons, Christams time was later deemed the time of jesus birthday and adopted to coincide with the pagan winter celebration. Santa Clause, christmas trees, red berries, green leaves, holly , mistletoe, wreaths, lighted candles and singing, as well as giving gifts all adopted from pagan religions.
also things such as the christian fish, robes, and crosses
