My daughter is your typical 14 year old girl. She’s into princesses and Disney movies and dressing up fancy and as girly as she can. She’s been that way her whole life. Every time I ever tried to take her hunting it was a fight because she didn’t want any part of it. I took her on the youth hunt last year and put several deer in front of her and she didn’t have any interest in it. So a couple weeks ago I asked her if she wanted to go with me and she actually said yes. She told me later it was so we could spend a little time together which made me feel good. We had a great weekend and on the last morning we had a doe walk by us at 15 yards and she made a perfect shot and the deer went about 40 yards and piled up. It was her first deer and she was super excited. I figured she was over it and that would be that. Then last Wednesday I got a text pop up on my phone and it’s Heather. The text read “Hey Daddy, can we go hunting this weekend”? I had not planned on going, but you can bet I was going after that.

We hunted this morning and seen a few does but nothing worth shooting. We came back and ate a little lunch and eased back in there about 3:15. We were sitting there cutting up and about 4 pm I told her we needed to get serious and stop making so much noise. We got our game faces on and started hunting. About 4:30 she was sitting there off in her own little world and I heard a deer walk across the road to our right and slip into the magnolias between the road and the field. I look at him as he was coming through the magnolia thicket and saw his tines. I looked over at her and said “Here comes a buck, do you want to shoot him”? She looked at me and said “Heck Yeah!”. By that time he had slid out in the field and was staring the shooting house down. He would drop his head and eat and I would ease the rifle over to her slowly and he would jerk his head up and look. We did that stare down thing a couple times and I finally got the rifle in her hands. She shouldered it and I pushed the safety off and looked over and the deer was head down and eating. I turned over to her and said “Don’t be nervous, just put that crosshair right in the center of that front shoulder and squeeze that trigger”. She nodded her head and I leaned back in my chair and said a little prayer. A few seconds later I heard the crack of the rifle and that buck melted like a stick of butter. Before I knew it I had thrown my hands in the air and yelled “YES” at the top of my lungs lol. This is her second deer but first ever buck.

Awesome dude! My 12 yr old girl got here 1st rack buck this year- a really nice 8. Nothing like experiencing this with your kid and I believe its more special when your kid is a girl. Good job young lady and great job dad
