Looking to purchase a used bass boat and found one I like, but it had a powerhead replacement done 30 hours ago, (March 2018). I have done a little reading on the subject and have some concerns about the Mercury Pro XS motors because of the powerhead issues. Anyone offer any insight into the Pro XS engines?

Thank you,

David

I bought one with 388hrs on it in may. 13hrs in and the compressor blew. I say that to say, i have no idea whether to be concerned or not. It seems its a crap shoot with either new or used. But i love the way that 200 pushes that triton.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

If you want to get there fast.....get a Merc....if you want to get there and back...get a Yamaha.

Hevi told me to buy a boat with a Yamaha 4 stroke with low hours. Said it would be my :forever" motor. I'm buying one today. A 2016 150 hp, with less than 100 hours.

Unless it's an HPDI or an older Sho. Then the Mercury can pull you back in. grin

Just kidding. People love them all. I sell them all. Some people won't own a yamaha, some won't own a Mercury. That's a fine motor. I would buy it all day long. The only problem with Mercury, they're bad about phasing out parts on. With them going to all fourstroke, could lead to issues 10 to 15 years from now. Most won't own one that long anyway. I own about 20 of each a year. If I was buying one to keep, it would be the Mercury or the older yamaha ox66.

The 2 I have had have been freaking bullet proof. Best motors I have ever had! I would buy another tomorrow
