Heading down in the morning for the first time. Not looking for anyone’s honey hole, but any info on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Big Swamp Creek area is always good for something. Its a big area. Be sure you got good locks on your vehicle and no obvious bait for vehicle scavengers.

I’d start with some good hiking boots. It’s dry down there right now so you won’t need the hip waders for the swampy areas. Some knee high rubbers will do. Carry something to fend off hogs. I’ve had a pile of them come up on me while I was ground hunting/scouting once. It’s also warm enough to see a crap ton of moccasins in Big Swamp. Like Skinny said, lock your doors and toolbox and don’t leave anything valuable in the bed of your truck, because the locals are opportunist.

I surveyed a few hundred acres of it back in August and it was dry then. That ground is so poor and eroded I am kinda amazed that trees and weeds can grow there. However, it is still ate up with deer and hogs and everything else.

I remember back around '92/'93 when that place first became a management area. Even on the weekends I would park at the gate on Hunter's Loop to go duck hunt early before daylight...for years never saw but the one same fellow from Greenville as I remember it. He would go one way and I the other....very simple. Now I walk 1 to 3 miles in order to get away from the young Duck Commanders....

We walked a little over a mile in this morning. Killed 3 woodies. Missed a few more. Walked about 3/4 of a mile in this afternoon and set up waiting on a deer or hog now.
