I would have if we could, I shot over 40 darts in a month if that tells you anything. We tried but unfortunately we believe the 4 we lost had one of the bad strains which by the time they were showing any signs it was too late. Its farming its like most other investments its a gamble, and I will tell any of you considering getting in this business think long and hard about it because it is not for the faint at heart.

The upside is I think I have shot about 23 or 24 bucks this year already over 140" with the largest being close to 300" kind of like catch and release hunting. All kidding aside if you enjoy deer it is fascinating and one of the best things I have ever done for my family. My girls absolutely love it, and have learned what it takes to take care of animals, build fences, and unfortunately the sting of loss. I believe they will the better for it in the long run. I have a 10 year old daughter who bragged to her friends that she made $12 two Saturdays ago for pulling up fence post and loading them on the trailer. She wrapped the chain from the front end loader so I could pull them up and then she would untie them and load them on the trailer. That is a win any day of the week.

Hunting pen raised genetically altered deer ain't hunting.
I wouldn't give anybody $10 to shoot one. I think it's a disgrace and damn sure a disrespect for nature.

I wouldn't either. I've been to several places, and every one has been a 100% joke. People that think it's actual "hunting" should come to some parts of West Alabama I frequent. I'll show you hard hunting laugh

ok, lets do market math: 300lb buck (this is BIG) 10 point head mounted cost from amazon...$700 (this is high end) lets round it to $1k

Head weighs 60lbs, remaining carcass 240 lbs. the average meat yield from a deer carcass is 35%. that leaves us with 84 lbs of good meat.

average price of deer meat on the market is about $10 per lb ground and $13 for prime cuts (this ridiculous since deer meat tastes like dried corn shucks) so that means an average price of $11.50 per pound times 84. equals $954 + $1000 (mounted head) the entire deer is worth less than $2000.

really?

I dropped $2000 at the wetumpka casino last month, why is everyone freaking out? you're making out like the guys lost his last penny...he lost $4000 tops, maybe more for the fence....jesus H Christ...it aint that much

I hunt some of those very places in West Alabama and also public land out west every year so I understand your views. This is primarily a business investment for me, that being said I guess you same guys wont fish in a man made impounded lake or pond and only fish free flowing natural water ways as well? There are lots of reasons people hunt the way they do and I think we as hunters should be very careful about tearing down the way others hunt as we are already loosing hunters each year.

Any word on this?

"I ask, who are the militia? They consist of now of the whole people, except a few public officers." George Mason
