Just a drop in the bucket.

What would you estimate the real numbers are?

Over 1,000 deer have been brought in to two processors I know locally. Most I’ve talked to have had between 50%-100% more deer checked in than this time last season. I don’t know but it’s a HECK of a lot more than 11,000. I can come up with 11,000 dead deer in less than 10 counties in north AL.

Saw lots of deer a few weeks ago. Of course I take this week off to hunt and it has been hot and real slow. They will be going crazy next week and my ass will be at work dark to dark.

Day time movement will slow down soon lots of people in the woods = pressure which = more night time movement. Then the rut will kick in sightings and kills will skyrocket. My guess is more deer will be killed this year than have been killed in a log time maybe ever. They won't be any bigger just more of them. The guys that don't get to hunt much or really know where/how to hunt will see/kill more because of corn. Deer like corn if you hunt over a pile of corn in the woods you will see deer it is just that simple.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

lauderdale co
The numbers i came up with was from game check so far. I live an hunt in lauderdale county . Only western half of county has lot deer. The management area has been to shot all hell last few yrs.. very few killed first hunt this yr.Bucks only this yr so thats good. i know there has many more deer killed than has been checked. Know people that hunt on there on property like we do that doesnt know what game check is. Less hunters than ever in my area an every one is mostly a mature buck hunter an don t shoot does. Just seems odd more killed in lauderdale co than any other county so far.

My processor said he’s really slow. His theory is deer are on acorns and people are lazy and hunting over corn on greeenfields.

I've taken in a few more than last year. But the last few days have been dead. 13 people sat at my club yesterday afternoon and 1 doe was seen. They're definately on acorns down here right now.

central ala,
As I said, I don't have good years or bad years. But if I did, the difference between good and bad is 2 deer on one particular property. That just started last year when before that the difference was 1 deer. On that property the population had dropped terribly and hunting was stopped for about 7 years. When the pop. started coming back I would kill 1 deer(maybe). Now the pop. Is even better so I let someone else kill 1 and I save 1 for myself. I have other properties I do the same with. So, I can't really tell a good year from a bad year without asking others. Same with turkeys, I don't kill more than one on a particular property. It's just a personal thing for me to move on after killing one.

For our area I think it is strictly due to the amount of acorns. Majority of our guys sit plots and while they have been seeing deer, they haven't killed but one buck. Me and my buddy have both killed nice 8pts that went 205 and 210, and have seen a ton of deer while hunting acorn trees over the past week.
