Good hunt this morning. Got my 7 yr old with me and this is his youth hunt. Hadn’t been set up for more than 30 min and 2 bucks came thru the lil oak ridge. He’s been dying to kill a buck off our property so I said pick one out and shoot. He thought he was shooting the 8 pt but he got the 3pt. Kinda glad bc they we identical in body size. Impressed with his shot. 75 yrds thru the woods and made a perfect shot. Will post pics later.

Way to go Hayden!!!

3 bucks so far.
Nothing I want to shoot, but will be good if they can survive another year or 2.

I let him do some population control shortly after he woke me up from my deep nap. First deer killed without a suppressed rifle. Finally graduated to a big rifle. Looks like I just lost my 7x57 mad

That would be hard to handle BOFF. That middle one looks like hes carrying one of my three tags.

Interesting evening.. I had one son shoot a wide 8pt he said it hit the ground then I heard him shoot again about 5 minutes later he said at a coyote.. he said when that shot went off the buck got up and ran off.. we looked for blood and hair but no luck so I assume he may have hit a limb or such and grazed the deer.. not sure..another son shot one at dark and it hauled butt.. finally found a few drops of blood here and there as well as a small piece of meat or 2 up high in the grass.. looked for over an hour and only found a drop or so of blood scattered several yards between each other.. I’m thinking maybe he hit it high or towards the neck just not sure.. sad thing is this was his first shot at a deer.. I’ll go back tomorrow just to try and look better in the daylight.

Lost one with a rifle myself yesterday too, Beadle. A huge buck I shot on the Demopolis WMA. (Would've been the 3rd biggest buck I've ever shot) He kicked like a mule and ran off tail tucked and that "injured deer" posture. Never found him. I've probably shot somewhere in the ball park of 100 deer in my life and almost every single one of them either kicked and ran off like that or dropped dead to the ground. It can't be explained, man. Try not to take it too hard.

Ahhh Man!!

I know that's gnawing at you.
Reads like the buck is dead somewhere.
They are tough animals for sure.

Yeah it's killing me. But it is what it is. However, I am kind of thankful. My dad and I spent several hours looking for it the next day and we got to be together in some time that we would normally not have made for each other otherwise. We hung out, listened to some bible studies on the way to and from the woods and witnessed to one another. The Lord put us together that afternoon for a reason and I am at peace with it. God works, and if he has to take a big buck away from me so that my dad and I can spend time together I am certainly alright with that.
