Everyone these days works beyond their hours on the clock. We all have to deal with crappy people. It’s really no different than any other job except you deal with kids. Also you get state retirement and benefits, and TONS of time off. You don’t like it you move along like everyone else and find something else to do. This demand more pay BS is out of control. My kids can’t pray in your school, can’t draw a picture of themselves killing a deer, cant walk down the hall without seeing he, she, him, gender pronoun whatever blasted all over the bulletin boards, etc, etc. Public schools are getting as bad a colleges as far as what they are teaching our kids..
I had a buddy who teaches public school. Lazy SOB. Home by 3:30 smoking weed and playing video games ( no drug test if your a teacher,,how convenient), try to get by that at any other job. Bragged about his health insurance costing less $200 a month for the family, Off 2 months of the summer and numerous other holidays, does nothing extra or goes out of the way to do anything above and beyond, and it doesn’t say to have to so you can be crappy and KEEP your job. State benefits kick in in about 3 years since he put in the time. He has completely jaded me on giving a crap about any teachers complaints.
Don’t mean to offend any of y’all that bust your butts to do the right thing but it shouldn’t be a job that requires a high salary and you know that. 21 year olds can follow a.curriculum just like a 68 year old that’s been doing it for 50 years. Just because you deal with crappy kids and parents doesn’t constitute a raise in pay.

If I had three months a year off, Christmas week off, AEA week off, plus vacation and an 8 hr. work day, you wouldn't hear a peep out of my mouth. Talk about a gravy trail work schedule! A buddy got a teaching degree and he said most of his fellow students wanted to get teaching degrees because they were lazy and wanted all the time off. Can't speak for dealing with brats, which I am sure they do, but many of my daughters teachers seemed like underachievers.

Not a one of thse complaining teachers will leave their job either. Not a single one. They know as soon as they do that they will have to work for less money, less retirement, and work harder and longer hours with ALOT less time off.

After you've worked out in the world for the same salary you make now, come back and talk to me.

I know a welder who went back to school and got his degree and is now a HS teacher. He said it's the best thing hes ever done and loves it. He can actually hunt and fish and spend more time with his family. Makes more money per hour and has an unbeatable retirement and other benefits. All for alot less effort.

they're mostly women so there's that you could pay them $100,000 a year and they would still find something to complain about

Some complain and some don’t, just like every other profession. If you have kids then be involved with their teachers. This is the one thing we can do to help and support those teaching our kids.

The thing that gets me is putting teachers on the prayer list because they are starting school back. Good Grief.
I'm sorry you are having to start back when I have been working all summer.

hit it on the head. goes for nurses or any other career for that matter.

the male teachers and nurses i know don;t complain, they find ways to make more money like side jobs, advancing education and skills, etc.

I know a ton of Dem educators who voted on empty promises. I think they had a reality check since Obama and are migrating to the Republican party. some still aren't convinced though.

This is exactly 199% correct. My wife teaches fourth grade and puts in way more hours than most can see. I use to think they had it made, not anymore.

I work about 10 hours every in the office and 24/7 otherwise. I am always working. I get no overtime. And I get no guarantee in any way.

I don't get paid more just because I work when I'm not technically at work either. Like I said, I'm always at work. So are most of our employees.

Everyone who gets a nearly risk free paycheck from a municipality, State or Federal Government agency or State funded institution seems to always have something to complain about.

I've got zero sympathy.

The rewards are greater in the private sector but the risks are 10 fold.

If you don't like it get another job.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Must've been a really crappy welder.

If that were true, there wouldn't be so many teachers that pick up side gigs to try to make ends meet.

I'll add teaching is a calling , some just ain't cut out for it. They get in it for good benefits , time off , good insurance and so on. Those folks are in for the wrong reasons and get a shock when they get there.

That being said , we had a guy with a teaching degree work in our tool and die shop, teaching wasn't for him and he was smart enough to know it.

Agreed, accept for the part about rewards are greater in the private sector. See the teacher spinoff thread I just started. The rewards are not always greater. I know you probably dont mean in every case, but still, just saying.

Welding can be tough, but I know plenty of guys making over 6 figures welding that have full paid family insurance and full paid company retirements. Hard to think a good welder would make more as a teacher, but it’s not always about the money.

I’ve had past teachers and college professors that have asked if I would be interested in going into teaching at a trade school and etc. It isn’t appealing to me because it’s 1/3 the pay with no better benefits than I’ve already got and I’m not sure that I could go a full day without telling a kid to The time off would be nice, but I would have to ramp up a side business anyways, so there really wouldn’t be “ time off”.

The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.
