Look who just walked past my kitchen window, cruising for does. The blacktail rut is in full swing.

An old high school buddy moved to Washington and told us he went hunting for Blacktail one year up there and it took him about 15 minutes after daylight to kill a buck. He said it was too easy and I never heard him say he went again.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The first time I ever saw that deer was the last day of the season, and I had already filled my one tag with a smaller deer. I imagine that's how he survived to get that old. I wonder where he lives when he's not chasing does.
