Tua's injury yesterday could have costed him tens of millions of dollars. He could have probably sit out this season and still be a top quarterback in the draft. Jaylon Smith was considered a top draft pick before he blew his knee out in a, what some would call "meaningless", fiesta bowla few years back. He was drafted in the second round, but definitely fell in draft status. Nick Bosa was able to miss a year after his injury and still get drafted second overall. We've saw Fournette lay out of games, Mccaffrey lay out of a game. Jadaveon Clowney gave about 50% his final year and still went number 1 overall- but could have and was advised to just sit out. A guy like Trevor Lawrence is pretty well slated to be the number one overall pick when he is able to enter the NFL draft. He still has a year and possibly 3 months worth of football left before eligible. He could likely sit out next year and still make millions as the Number one overall pick or enter that new league, make a few million for a year then jump to NFL. Will we start seeing guys make that move if it becomes an option for them? I'm all about team players, but if I have the option to make tens of millions of dollars....screw you guys.

If they sitout, they need to pay back scholarships and cost the schools paid to have them.

Even if they were a contributing member for the years that they were there? It's not like they are getting paid for 4 years upfront and only giving 2-3 years of service or etc.
I hope it doesn't start happening, but I can see it happening more now, than the olden days. Especially if the NCAA doesn't find another way other than Scholarships and etc for them to profit while in school.
With that being said. I'm not one of these "pay the players" people. I think the free degree they get, the platform they have throughout life, the free food, the free room and board, free medical or etc should be plenty good enough.

Maybe Nix will sit out next year. Maybe Gus will sit out next year.

That "new league" (XFL) is going to have an average salary of $55k. I don't think there are millions to be made there, and I don't see many forgoing college to play there, to be honest. I think it'll be more like the recently folded league....buncha rejects.

If Aubren didn't put all their eggs in Malzens basket they could afford to pay their players 55k too.

Oh, we pay em well, just not as well as the REC. 😀 How else could we get players to come and play for our IDOT coach?
