So the wife sets up an appointment for us to talk to this guy about going to solar panels for power. As I expected it turned out to be an hour of my life wasted and I wanted to charge the guy for the bottle of water we gave him. He was well trained but full of schiff. He wanted us to sign on to buying solar panels for $35k on credit. I told him we only had a couple of years left on the roof and would everything have to come off then be re-installed after the new roof. He says yes but we take care of all of that and you pay nothing out of pocket, it gets rolled into your bill. So, I tell him that we would need to put a new roof on BEFORE the panels and he says yes most people do that and we include it in the bill. So, he wanted to convince me that going $55k in debt on day one was a great idea. I said when we move we will take that debt to the new house. He says oh no, you just increase the asking price of this house to pay it, it will increase your homes value that much. He also said the panels never needed any maintenance but if they did, it would just roll into our bill, "nothing out of pocket". He kept using the term "nothing out of pocket". I eventually had to tell him this:
Did he also share with you how you’re not actually spending money - you are making money with the ROI and tax incentives?
It’s normally at that point in the conversation that I use your meme.
They definitely have their sales pitch down.
Oh yeah, he tried that and showed us some totally made up data to try to convince us. Turns out if you don't roll the tax incentive over to them as part of your bill, they put a whopping monthly increase on your bill.
Unless the salesman is willing to pay my hour rate, I am not sitting down and listening. Goes with all timeshare stuff too.

been watching a fair # of this guy's videos on YT ... those of you who have followed "Alone" on the History Channel may recognize him as he & his wife Brooke participated one season; probably would've won if she hadn't gotten so skinny/weak & lost a ton of weight ... the shelter that they built was badass ... i see now why they were so adept at it ... anyway, he talks about solar; whenever he needs power, he just cranks up a Honda generator ...

ALDeer physics: for every opinion, there's an equal & opposite opinion
A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.
I have done a couple of solar projects, and by and large in the south they aren't worth the investment. As for no maintenance he is full of crap, the batteries are shot after 10 years, the panels rarely make it 20. With utility rates in the south as low as they are you barely break even at 20 years.
I can give you a guys phone number who does solar power for a living. I can promise you he wont try to take you for a ride. Yall are a good ways apart but he would be the man I would want to talk to if I was looking to get into solar power. Hes a customer of mine and a really good guy, as far as I can tell. He might could give you some advice if nothing else.
I hope to look into solar when I get to the farm permanently in 4 years. Not as a cost savings but as part of my plan to make that place as self sustaining as possible.
The fellow im talking about uses solar power but is still hooked to Al power. I believe he told me he uses $3 worth of Al power per month. But he has to pay a minimum bill just to be hooked to them. All his power is solar and solar heats his water. It would be quite an adjustmen to most people. He used to didnt have ac because it used too much power. I noticed the other day he had a mini split now. He did tell me the installation price of the systems had come down alot because the panels are alot cheaper now.
The panel price this company offered is over twice the average cost for the same setup in Panama City right now. I think this area could use more competing companies.
I imagine they want to secure that costs with a mortgage. No thanks
All kidding aside the guy actually requested our driver's licenses to "see if we qualified". I said you mean you want to run a hard credit inquiry on both of us tonight? After I just told you thanks but this is not the right move for us at this time?
