A 223 is better than a 270.

Winchesters 64 grain softpoints is what I have the most experience with others use the Barnes to good effect.

That 223 will smoke em geezer. I like the 62gr fusion shells. My boy and I have killed three good bucks with ours. You wont get alot of blood, maybe not any, but it will mess up a deers insides. All three we killed with ours ran about 40yds and piled up.

The 64 winchester power point and 62 fusion are both terminal.
The deer I've killed with a 223 didn't have any vital organs left. They turned to jelly.

Uhh this is easy. I'd dump the 223 for the 7mm 08 👍

Don't think that was one of the options.

It's possible but why try if you have other options. Get someone to help sight in the 7-08, its a great caliber for deer. Save the .223 for varmint s and sling some lead at the deer

I'm gonna have to go with James on this one. 40yds with no blood and it could mean finding him or not. Additionally, unless your shooting Hornady Superformance SST 139 grain, that rifle should zero in no time and will smoke anything well beyond your 100yd shot.
