Why we have to have a special season for every different kind of hunter is beyond me. Cant we all just hunt with what we want when the season starts? Bow hunters here is your special time, crossbow hunters here is your special time, muzzle loader hunters here is your special time, kids here is your special time. When does the (women hunters) special time start. I will wait until rifle seasonstarts since my kids will be shooting a deer with a rifle. When is the special dial time for the adult rifle hunters? I would say the exact opposite. YOUTH DEER SEASON is without question the best change and best utilzation of a special season in my lifetime. I will cherish the memories of those special weekends with my girls as long as I live and they also so very dearly remember those great days outdoors!

A very good chance for the youngsters to get after them before they get too pressured. Always been my favorite weekend of the season.

Unfortunately, that's probably the only time some folks will take their kids. I take mine all the time and will this weekend, but I've heard a lot of people complain about their kids getting in the way of them killing deer and just not take them until they're older. If you wait until 14,15 or 16, a kids chances of being an avid hunter are less IMO. People who think like this should be ashamed of themselves. It is so much better for my children to be successful at hunting and enjoy the outdoors. Not only that but I make it a point to take a kid hunting every year that otherwise wouldn’t get to go.

I take my kids nearly everytime I hunt. I take other peoples kids and have had a great time watching/helping young hunters get their first deer. I just dont understand why the state gives extra opportunities to each group of hunters except the group that makes up the majority of the hunting population and spends the most money on hunting.

Good point. I always have my kids with me as well. I don’t really want to go without them. My son has lost some interest in it only to be replaced by bass fishing so I guess life could be worse. Actually I’m captaining the boat this weekend for him on Weiss. We’ll make a drive to the deer woods afterwards. I really don’t know what I’m going to do when they move out.

I just dont understand why the state gives extra opportunities to each group of hunters except the group that makes up the majority of the hunting population and spends the most money on hunting. The group that spends the most on hunting has approximately 4 months to hunt EVERY DAY. And now they can do it over bait. What the Hell else do they need?
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

If anything is needed, it a broken up season to reduce pressure on the deer.

With the adult It depends if you get caught. No you cannot. Make sure you have a baiting privilege liscense for the youth as well. Why have we made going hunting some damned complicated? They have about regulated me out of the sport.

How short sighted and selfish does a grown man have to be to not understand the potential benefits and good that happens when youth have a special season to hunt.
I guess if you inherited 1000 acre farm and your family is the only one that hunts, it wouldn’t matter - I understand that. But try to think about a real world situation, dang! And how about don’t worry about Bubba taking his 3 year old and hunting this weekend. That’s a rare deal, and that guy is doing worse than that at any given time of the year. Because there’s thousands of parents and guardians and groups doing awesome things this weekend.
And for a normal club setting, or public land, this will be the best chance for a youth to see deer and be successful, especially in “easy” hunt situations, like a food plot. Before all the gun hunting pressure drastically changes that dynamic. It is definitely one of the most successful weekends at our club. And I will take my boys hunting every chance I get the rest of the season, but the best hunting of the year for them, will be this weekend given our club situation.

This whole thread is awesome!!! It will go as the longest one I ever started. A simple yes or no answer was what I was shooting for. Yes. You can carry a weapon. I wouldn’t carry a deer hunting rifle, separate from the one the youth is going to shoot. But other than that, why couldn’t you carry a weapon?
