The guy that works for me just bought a skid steer with the forestry mulching head very similar to this one and it is a very productive machine. I think the skid steer was about $90,000 and the head was about $25,000. This guy isn't a real good operator, but you can see the way it works. The disc is similar to a feller buncher, but has teeth on the top and bottom of the disc. It just sucks in the smaller trees and spits out some debris, he cut a 24" tree the other day just to see if it would cut it.

We've talked about buying one for the farm and what not. They'll eat.

We got one similar and I spent a day cutting trails up the mountain down the ridge and throughout young planted pines this summer leading to my house, it really helps with persuading deer trails. I thought I was gonna flip on the mountain tho in a spot or 2 not sure I'll do that again

I like to watch Mike. Mrs. Malissa is pretty easy on the eyes too.

Is there a pro/con on this style vs. drum style? I've had the drum style do work for me multiple times and I don't see this style being a better option for most scenarios.

The drum style will be slower but will break down material much better and leave it looking better as soon as it leaves the field. This style will do the work MUCH faster but will not leave the final product looking near as good a a drum would. (Even though they have gotten better)
If your paying by the hour and don’t care about immediate aesthetics, hire someone with one of these. If you want that manicured finish or are working near property that may be damaged as a result of flying debris, hire someone with a drum.

The drum style is way better in my opinion. Does a far superior job and leaves a clean path.
The only upside to the bellsaw is that it can handle larger trees.

I’ve got one similar for my skid steer. It will do some amazing stuff. It makes a lot of people lazy whenever I get done. I bought it for business purposes but it’s damn nice at the camp too

This one has the disc with the teeth so it can cut and mulch. It isn't the typical blade type like a bush hog that are on some skid steers. That disc has teeth on bottom and sides.

Take a look at the ASV 120F with 71" Loftness mulch head. JD can't hang with this.
