How do you get your pups to stay with a dead deer once they find it. I had my dog trained to blood trail and finally got to put her on a track yesterday. She went straight to the deer and stayed about 5 seconds then went on her way. I called her back and resent her and kept up she went straight back to the deer where I rubbed all over and praised and kept her excited. Do you give them a prize or just try to keep up or what ?

Go to the deer processor and ask them for some leg ends....Start giving them to her as treats and use it as the prize at the end of any training track you run. Once she realizes she likes the taste you'll probably have to beat her off one when you find it.

You also might want to go ahead and gut one in front of her.....take a little chunk of liver out of it and let her have it as a prize. About like a little piece of tenderloin we'd cut to batter and fry. Don't give her too much though....I've heard it can be bad to give them a bunch.

There is a type of training called if I spell it right bringsel steel training where they train a dog to put a steel rod in there mouth and return to the handler upon finding a animal and lead them back to it. As for the humping well good luck with that
I've read about a German method like that but I thought it was a leather flap on its collar that it flipped up in its mouth.

I know a guy that's been training a dog and about to get his tested some may use leather but from what few pics I have saw and lil I know about it it's a lil piece of steel that hangs from the collar I guess either one would work

Ive done this in the past to my dogs, as well to my deer dogs, kill a deer they are running, knock the guts out, and let em eat on the liver. they like it

Many years ago I would put my blue heeler on a track with a bell on her collar. More than once I would catch up to her when she was coming back to me. I knew then she had found it. I would pet her and praise her and then I would ask her to take me to it and she would. That was a fine dog and great companion.
I like Jiffy cornbread.
