Why are you going with glue as opposed to floating?

What do you do in older houses with particle board over layment that was popular in the early 80's. I am remodeling a rental now that has the particle board over 1/2" plywood. We have been tearing it up and putting down new plywood then backerboard and ceramic in the high traffic areas but I was considering Vinyl plank in this one as the grouting ceramic has got to where it destroys my hands.

Is there any leveling issues in your remodel? We are trying a new glue from sherwin williams they gave us for free just for this. Will let you know the results

With lvp you can even have it in the bathroom with no water worries. It can also be mopped if needed

I put roofing felt down first and it will help slide the vinyl planks together if the particle board is in good shape.

We had particle board over plywood . The vinyl plank was installed directly over the particle board. Of course if it isn't level it needs leveling. Mine is floating not glued.

I’ve never had a problem with a floor staying wet.

We bought a house with real wood floors and the dogs’ nails have scratched the hell out of it. We keep their nails short and they still manage to scratch it when they’re excited or playing.

I’ve never had that problem. Hard wood floors shouldn’t scratch like that. Sounds like a crappy finish. I have seen floors that have a shiny gloss finish get scratched. I’ve never cared for gloss finishes. A real hard wood with the proper finish actually looks better the older it gets as it starts to show character.

Expense of real wood is one issue. The other is laminate or vinyl can be replaced easily. Real wood has to be refinished. I can tell you refinishing is a big ordeal.

Always thought it was a no-no to put vinyl , tile or anything that doesn't "breath" over particle board.

I'm glad I ask about the flooring on here, we had ordered the laminate, but after reading the replies I cancelled out and ordered a good vinyl flooring in a very similar pattern. Thanks to all.

My grandson and I are going to try to install it, biggest problem is that when I started pulling the carpet up today i found out the installer had glued down the padding and it is a major pain to get it up. The only thing I have found that works is to take a sharpened flat shovel and kick, my leg hurts right now.
